Amsterdam Does a “Pride Walk” Instead of a Parade This Year With a Serious Message

Due to the fact that COVID canceled Pride Events this year and last in Amsterdam, they decided to do a “Pride Walk” instead to celebrate and to show support for all the LGBTQ people around the world who are still dealing with hate who don’t feel safe anymore. This is significant because we rarely even hear about this in the US. I post about what’s happening globally to LGBTQ people all the time, but most in the US don’t know a thing about it.

“Times have changed, and now a lot of (gay people) don’t feel safe anymore, even in Amsterdam 70 percent don’t dare to walk holding hands,” said Siep de Haan, who launched the first boat parade in 1996.

Here’s the rest.  According to this, Amsterdam was gay paradise 25 years ago and they are trying to get that back. I had no idea! But I do think it’s important to constantly be aware of what’s happening to LGBTQ people around the world. Our fight for equality…for me…isn’t just national. It’s global. At least we can be aware.

Amazon

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
