Kacey Musgraves (and her stupid tour) Does NOT Represent All Gay People, Ryan Field Books

Kacey Musgraves (and her stupid tour) Does NOT Represent All Gay People

We…all gay people…get so used to straights misrepresenting us in so many ways we often just ignore it and move on. It’s just easier. We tell ourselves, “no harm done.” Or we tell ourselves, “it’s not important.” I think it’s time we started noticing these things, and it’s time we stopped being the clowns and court jesters. For one thing, just referring to us as “the gays” is homophobic.

But lately I’m realizing that it is important. The way this promotion portrays all gay people is NOT right. And Kacey Musgraves and her PR people should be told that it’s just not right. And if you have any doubts about that, just replace “gays” with any other minority and see what happens. Can you imagine how racist and wrong it would be to replace “gays” with “blacks?” I would never do it, and I don’t think most people would do it. But somehow it’s okay for other people to say this about gay people.

I can assure you that I am NOT one of those “gays” who is losing his mind over Kacey Musgraves. I’m thrilled for Leslie Jordan, but that’s not my gay opinion.

LGBTQ+ fans are losing their minds on social media. Leslie Jordan commented, “I want to be a groupie on this tour” on Musgraves’s initial post. Drag Race star Gigi Goode just commented with three exclamation points and “Gasp”. Fans are also reacting on Twitter:

Here’s more. This kind of thing always gives straight people such a wrong impression of gay people. Nowadays, something like this is actually a form of homophobia because of the strong stereotypes. And if you don’t believe me, just remember there are thousands of young gay boys still in the closet who are terrified to come out because they don’t identify this way.

Gay Afghan Man Raped, Beaten, and Outed by Taliban, Ryan Field Books

Gay Afghan Man Raped, Beaten, and Outed by Taliban

Here’s another rough story from the Middle East. It’s about a gay man who was raped, beaten, and then outed by the Taliban. And I’m sure this isn’t an isolated story. It all happened while the poor guy was trying to flee from the country to a safer place.

And even worse, all this transpired through social media. In his quest to get out of the country, he was catfished. And when you are desperate you are vulnerable to anything.

The men proceeded to beat and rape Hanan, and even demanded he hand over his father’s number so they could call and tell him his son was gay.

Here’s more. Of course many fear this is only the beginning of more horror the the LGBTQ+ community in Afghanistan.

Ford’s very gay Ranger Raptor fights homophobia

In Cologne, they celebrate something called Christopher Street Day, which is highly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. And Ford has always been a big supporter. But this year they did something a little different.

This year, Ford offered a rainbow-adorned Ranger Raptor for the occasion but the Raptor’s origin was two-fold. It was also created due to a specific, negative social media commenter that called the Raptor’s original color of Performance Blue “very gay.” As such, Ford specifically named this pickup the Very Gay Raptor.

Here’s more. You can also check out photos of the Very Gay Ranger Raptor at the link. They also talk about how involved it was to create all those colors.

The Taliban Killed His Boyfriend

With all the turmoil happening in Afghanistan lately, this article will show you what it’s like for gay people right now. Normally, that entire part of the world is not a place where any gay people want to be under any circumstances, but when you factor in the Taliban it becomes even more deadly.

Gay men in Afghanistan have told the British news site the i about the fears they have now that the Taliban have gained control of the country. One man even told the site about the death of his boyfriend…

Here’s more. This is really happening now and no one is doing anything to stop it. At least I’m starting to see it mentioned in mainstream news.

Indian American Gay Couples Dealing with Stigmas, Ryan Field Books

Indian American Gay Couples Dealing with Stigmas

Even though the world has changed in the last 10 years, it’s still not easy for gay people. Especially when you get into other cultures and religions.

This article examines what it’s like for Indian American gay couples who want Indian traditions in their lives, but it’s not always easy or possible. So they make do and they work around it. For one thing, they wanted a traditional Hindu wedding but they couldn’t find a priest who would do it.

“We wanted a Hindu wedding, but so many pandits [priests] said no. I was agonised when one of them quoted an exorbitant amount just because I am gay!” said Sameer, who lives in North Carolina.

Here’s the rest. I think all gay people face similar issues with regard to most religions.

Only Fans will not ban sexually explicit content after all, Ryan Murphy's American Horror in Provincetown, MA, Ryan Field books

Only Fans will not ban sexually explicit content after all

First, I was actually a little shocked when I first heard that Only Fans would be banning sexually explicit content. I thought that was all they did. I truly did not know they did other content besides sex. The only thing I ever see about Only Fans is in my Twitter feed and it’s always sexually explicit gay content.

With that said, not long after they announced they would ban sexually explicit content, they received tons of backlash. I think I even Tweeted something and I’m not even invested in this. I just hate that kind of censorship. But more important, a lot of people depended on the income from Only Fans.

The reversal came after a groundswell of opposition to the proposed ban surfaced from its performers and customers, many of whom are members of the LGBTQ community who, like their straight counterparts, used the site to generate income over the past year and a half during the COVID pandemic.

Here’s more. They go into a lot more detail and they mention the Free Speech Coalition. Very interesting article.

Ryan Murphy’s American Horror in Provincetown, MA

Thanks to COVID, production for American Horror Story delayed the most recent season. But last night the season dropped on the FX channel with a double feature. I liked the double feature idea. It reminded me of the 80s when we all couldn’t wait to see Michael Jackson’s Thriller.  In this day and age of streaming everything, and having everything at our fingertips at all times, the double feature was a nice touch for the sake of nostalgia. There are a lot of commercials, though, and I’m also glad we don’t have to watch all TV this way all the time. I’ll probably DVR the rest of the season and FF the commercials.

However, this season of AHS is set in Provincetown, MA. The town is a very old artist colony at the tip of Cape Cod that’s also a well-known gay mecca. I could live there year-round. For years, Tony and I went there for Labor Day and the whole week after, we went for New Year’s Eve week, and we went for Halloween. It was only a 7-hour drive from New Hope and we loved it. We love the town itself, we love Cape Cod, and we loved being surrounded by so many other gay people. It couples, it’s singles, it’s all ages. They even have a special week in the summer dedicated to gay bears. It’s kind of like the East Coast version of Palm Springs, CA. Which of course is why Tony and I live in Palm Springs now.

So far, I’m enjoying AHS set in P’town. The storyline is excellent. There’s an artist theme that’s so appropriate for P’town. And I love all the players. Only two shows dropped last night and I’m hooked. I think most people will enjoy this season. No spoilers.

Calling Out Certain Countries for Homophobia, Ryan Field Books

Calling Out Certain Countries for Homophobia

The actress/entertainer, Lucie Arnaz, recently posted about how thrilled she was to be going to Africa. I didn’t want to take away her joy, but I had to point out that so many countries in Africa are homophobic and very poor on LGBTQ rights. I would have liked to have seen Ms. Arnaz at least complain a little about how LGBTQ people are treated in some parts of Africa. She’s very vocal about politics. But I doubt she even knew. Most people, gay or straight, don’t know.

With that said, there are many parts of the world where being gay is still not safe. The author of this piece is also talking about members of the LGBTQ community rushing to support this anti-gay place. I’ve seen it myself and I have to wonder if these LGBTQ people are just not informed or are they just stupid.

I’m talking about the Palestinian Authority and its counterpart in the Gaza Strip, Hamas. This is about one life and death issue — the deadly treatment by Palestinians of their LGBT community.

Here’s the link. There’s a much longer explanation of LGBTQ rights and the Palestinians. You might learn something important with this one.

Republican Candidate Derrick Van Orden Becomes Irate Over Gay Pride Display, Ryan Field Books

Republican Candidate Derrick Van Orden Becomes Irate Over Gay Pride Display

I don’t think most people realize that up until recently all books with what is considered “gay content” were usually placed in the “Adults Only” section of libraries, book shops, and even online retailers. I’m not talking about gay books with erotica or gay erotic romances. I’m talking about books with any gay content.

But this story is a little different, as you’ll see below. In fact, it’s very different. A Republican congressional candidate, Derrick Van Orden, went after a staffer at a Wisconsin library because of a gay pride display. There was nothing erotic about the display. It simply had gay content. But Van Orden claims there were inaccuracies that offended him.

“I unequivocally support equal rights for all Americans. This of course includes our fellow citizens who are members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is 2021 and this should not have to be stated but there are people who continue to divide us as Americans for political purposes. I will not allow them to further degrade the relationships we have as citizens.”

Here’s more. Van Orden claims he was offended by the display because it misrepresented Republicans. He claims he supports the LGBTQ+ community and that he’s sick and tired of the division some people create.

It’s interesting.

Valor Christian Volley Ball Coach Says He Was Forced To Resign For Being Gay

Here’s another one of those stories about good Christians coming after gay people. They continue to pop up in the news every so often in spite of how much society and the world have changed. This time it’s a Volley Ball Coach who posted something on Facebook about sexuality and marriage, the school saw it, and the school questioned the coach about it.

“What (school officials) said was, ‘We don’t want to make it seem like we’re trying to convert you into being a straight man, but we just want you to be a child of God,'” he said. “I was scared after that, because I felt that I would be released for identifying as a gay man.”

Here’s more. It’s very sad that we still have to go through this.

Gay Afghans Face Extermination Under Taliban

If you’ve been following what’s been happening in world news, you probably already know about this.

But most people don’t really know the magnitude of what all this means for gay people.

“As soon as the Taliban know that I am a gay man, they will kill me without even thinking about it,” 36-year-old “Sayed” told Business Insider Saturday.

Here’s the rest.  And yet we hear nothing about this in the mainstream news. Just where are the happy smiling network journalists when it comes to this story?

Gay Men In Afghanistan Could Be Killed On the Spot

This is another article about what gay men in Afghanistan are dealing with right now, and there’s nothing anyone can do. And things weren’t great for gay men in this country before the Taliban.

“We cannot go out because we are just scared for our lives,” a 21-year-old gay man called Ghulam, whose real name was changed for safety purposes, told Insider. “If we get caught, the Taliban will kill us.”

Here’s more. I do hope that people realize this is not an exaggeration. This is real and it’s happening right now.
