Publishing, Literary Agents, and a Broken Query System, Gay Couple On Vacation Brutally Attacked While Straight People Watch and Called Them "Queer", Ryan Field Books

Publishing, Literary Agents, and a Broken Query System

As a writer, I never said no to anyone. If an LGBTQ publisher asked me to do something, I did it. And I still do it. And I will continue to do it until I’m dead. That’s just a reality in life as a writer, especially if you’re coming from a minority or any marginalized group. But it’s just as difficult sometimes for straight mainstream authors.

AND THAT IS BECAUSE THE QUERY SYSTEM IS BROKEN.

So if you’re querying agents and you’re getting rejected, don’t beat yourself up. It’s part of the process because THE QUERY SYSTEM IS BROKEN.

There are, however, a few literary agents out there who will tell you the truth about the query system. This is one of them.

I struggle to find new clients through the query system. I often wonder if it is counter-productive. So how do we find clients? Each agent is different and I know, even in our agency, some agents have found a good number of their clients through the query system. But I tend to find clients two different ways: through referrals from editors, clients or published authors; and through meeting writers in person at a conference.

Here’s the rest. They also talk about how you can get around the broken query system and still get published. I did it. It wasn’t easy, but I figured out a way to get published through all the LGBTQ publishers and several good e-publishers. And I met some excellent people in publishing through being tenacious. I also figured out how to indie publish a few of my own titles. Every author out there should be looking into that, too.

Gay Couple On Vacation Brutally Attacked While Straight People Watch and Cheer

Here’s another sad story of anti-gay hate, discrimination, homophobia, and how unsafe we really are. It’s a good example of how the world still works in some places. And as LGBTQ people it is our reality. We can never stop worrying that something like this might happen to us.

Two gay men vacationing on the French island of Corsica were brutally attacked by group of up to 20 men while a large crowd gathered and watched…

Here’s more. There are bloody facial photos of the attack. And, for the record, this is why I will never embrace being called “queer.” This horrible word is still an anti-gay slur. And no one is going to convince me otherwise.

One of the youths confronted the couple and called them queers.
