How the Gay Party Scene Short-Circuited

This is a very interesting article about gay culture with respect to circuit parties. They’ve been around all my life and yet I’m still learning new things about them that I didn’t know before.

The circuit soon came to simply refer to the network of underground nightclubs where gay men could dance together. These spaces also fostered solidarity among gay people, helping them feel less stigmatized and normalizing some of the issues they faced, whether it was HIV/AIDS or rejection by family and peers.

Here’s more. What’s really interesting is that circuit parties still seem to be going strong…at least to a certain extent. When COVID threatened to shut down the Palm Springs White Party this year, they took that party to Mexico. Of course they got backlash, but they don’t seem to care.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
