Young Gay Republican Defeats Anti-Gay Bills In Wyoming
Here’s something I think we’ll be seeing more of as younger gay men become more vocal and active in politics in general. It’s an evolution of sorts for all LGBTQ people, and that cliche of older gay men with mustaches always following the Democratic party is being challenged more lately than ever before. And the interesting thing is that we’re all on the same side. We want to promote equal rights for all LGBTQ people. And sometimes, with some highly political people, party affiliation doesn’t always match the stereotypes. I know that’s not going to make sense to many of you, but I’m not the one making the rules. I’ve been a lifelong Democrat and I’m just observing the shifts I’m seeing in society.
Since he took office in 2005, openly gay Republican Dan Zwonitzer, 41, has successfully orchestrated efforts to defeat at least six anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in the Wyoming Legislature, many of which would have set limits on same-sex marriages, and he has been a powerful political voice in behalf of gay Wyomingites.
Here’s more. Look at it this way. At least we’re now getting gay republicans who are looking out for us, too. That makes me feel a good deal safer.
