Nigerian Judge Throws Out Case Against 47 Gay Men

Here’s something interesting that seems to be getting attention in many places. And rightly so. I think I even posted about this before.

The men were arrested in a police raid on a Lagos hotel in the city’s Egbeda district in 2018. Police said the men were being initiated into a gay club, but the defendants said they were attending a birthday party.

Here’s the rest. Apparently, the judge threw out the case due to, “lack of diligent prosecution.” It goes on to talk about the stigma of being gay that still exists, and how much damage some of these men suffered as a result of their names being printed in public. And that stigma still exists everywhere.
