How To Respond When Your Son Comes Out As Gay
I always enjoy reading these things to see how straight people react to gay people coming out. This is from a Dear Abby column that talks about how you should respond to your son when he tells you he’s gay.
As she hugged me, she said, “I will always love you, no matter what.” Then, looking me straight in the eye, she thanked me for my honesty before again pulling me into her arms and whispering, “I’ve known since you were a small boy.”
Here’s the rest. It’s a wonderful coming-out story and he talks about how his relationship with his mom only got better after he came out. I also spoke to my mom every single day on the phone when she was alive. Even though she lived two hours away and we didn’t see each other every day, we did speak. And when she passed, one of the hardest things I had to deal with was that I would never talk to her on the phone again. It’s gutting to this day, 5 years later.
