Gay Candidates and DC School Board
This interests me because I grew up in a family that was always involved in this kind of politics. My dad ran for, and was elected to, the local school board several times. He served for years. And back then…in the 80s and 90s…you’d never hear of anyone openly gay running for public office. Not even for the school board. Of course I’m sure there were gay people running for all kinds of political offices. You just didn’t know it.
The number of out LGBTQ candidates running in D.C.’s Nov. 3 general election for public office other than Advisory Neighborhood Commission positions rose from two to four since July 31 when two gay men entered the race for seats on the nonpartisan, nine-member elected D.C. State Board of Education.
You can read the rest, here. There are photos of both guys.
