The Pain of Canceled Pride Celebrations
Let’s face it, we only get one month out of the year to celebrate all the shit we’ve gone through. And in many cases, are still going through. I don’t think we’ve even begun to speculate on how many LGBTQ+ people there are out there because so many are still in the closet. I think Pride events help those people the most. Just seeing them happen offers encouragement. But I guess we won’t be seeing anything like that this year. It’s going to be a sad year for many LGBTQ+ people.
“Not having that this summer,” Johnstone added, “makes it feel as if a big part of my year is missing — the excitement of getting ready and figuring out what I’m going to wear and meeting people. There’s grief in missing out on all that.”
Two Years In Prison for Gay Sex
Here’s another story on the global front.
In Turkmenistan, men who have sex with men continue to be arrested and imprisoned on sodomy charges.
You can read the entire story, here. It’s one of 69 countries that outlaw consensual gay sex. Apparently, they give men these horrifying anal exams.
This is never reported in the mainstream media, and no one ever speaks of it.
