Sam Smith Loves Poppers

The only reason I’m posting about this is because I like poppers, too, and I have this feeling a lot of people don’t even know what they are. I know most straight people don’t know.

With that said, here’s what poppers actually are

Popper is a slang term given broadly to drugs of the chemical class called alkyl nitrites that are inhaled

You get a quick rush that doesn’t last more than a brief moment. That’s it. Nothing more than that. And most people don’t do them very often. It’s an occasional thing.

Here’s what Sam Smith said.

“I can completely confirm, I love poppers! I love poppers. I’ve been ashamed to say that, but I have so much fun when I do poppers. I’m not trying to endorse it. I know they’re not good for you. I mean, booze isn’t good for you as well, right?”

You can read more, here. There are comments. For as long as I can remember poppers have been part of the club scene.

Gay Man Pays Straight Studs For Sex

This is about a gay man who’s been paying straight men for sex most of his life. It’s really one of those question and answer advice columns

“What this has usually amounted to was me paying them cash to give them oral sex. It’s not something that I’m proud of, but it has really been the only consistent way that I’ve ever been able to have the sex that I desire and need.”

You can read is all, here. First, I have no problem with sex workers or the jobs they do. Second, it’s a fascinating piece to examine with regard to gay men who prefer sex with straight men. It also gets into the concept of sex with no reciprocation, which I’ve added to my books more than once. We seem to have been taught by Hollywood…or whomever…that everyone has to climax during sex every single time and that’s just not always the case. Sex with two men is NOT like sex with a man and a woman, and it’s not like Brokeback Mountain or Will and his Grace. Sex with no reciprocation is a huge turn on for some gay men who truly enjoy nothing more than giving (not receiving) oral sex.

There are all kinds of comments.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”

What readers said about “Altered Parts”
“Best Gay Novel In Years. This story will stay with you and you will feel you know every character and the beauty of their home in the mountains of North Carolina.”

Altered Parts by [Field, Ryan]

While the book is easily readable, it also addresses emotions stereotypes and relationships. I would have preferred it be 3 times as long and tragically most guys don’t find happy endings as depicted.. but in a short book, it provides food for thought, clarity and insight.. far more and better expressed than 99% of gay fiction . I don’t think it could have been done better.
