Washington Passes Ban On Gay and Trans Panic Defense

It’s about time everyone banned this ridiculous defense.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A measure prohibiting homicide defendants from claiming a defense based on panic over a victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity has been passed by lawmakers in Washington state.

Here’s a link to read more. Nine other states have already banned gay or trans panic defense. If you don’t know anything about gay panic defense do a simple search. It’s worth your while.

Maluma In Hot Wet Calvins

This is one of those links to photos with another guy who stripped down for money. I think he’s straight, too.

Maluma and a few others posed, along with Justin Bieber and SZA in a new campaign.

They’re good photos, but it’s all been done before in the same staged, planned way. In fact, I’m starting to think of these things as photo cliches. They’ve had their day. They’re not going to break the Internet either, but you might love them so don’t go by me. And there is an artistic quality.

You can check them out, here. It’s SFW, too.

While the book is easily readable, it also addresses emotions stereotypes and relationships. I would have preferred it be 3 times as long and tragically most guys don’t find happy endings as depicted.. but in a short book, it provides food for thought, clarity and insight.. far more and better expressed than 99% of gay fiction . I don’t think it could have been done better.

Washington DC’s Last Gay Bathhouse Closes

I recently posted about the possibility of bathhouses making a comeback, but according to this article it doesn’t look all that great anymore.

A bathhouse called The Crew Club in Washington’s Logan Circle is shuttering this Saturday night. It’s been in business for 25 years. The owners spoke openly about why they’re closing.

“We sold the building four years ago at the height of the market and we were trying to work out a lease-back program but it just didn’t seem to be working the way I thought would be a profitable thing to do,” Allen said.

You can check it all out, here.  Obviously the key word here is profitable.

Man Who Faked Being Gay To Get Lesbian’s Trust

This is one of those stories that will make you want to kick something. It’s hard to believe anyone would stoop to something this low and vile.

A 36-year-old Atlanta man was convicted of raping a woman he had met on a commuter train after pretending to be gay to gain her trust, prosecutors said.

You can read it all, here.

Ben Affleck Is NOT On Grindr, He Swears

This is one of those simple stories where you won’t have to think too hard. And sometimes that’s not a bad thing. And, it’s Friday.

Ben Affleck did an interview about what it’s like to date now and he stated he’s not on any hook up apps at all. To be honest, I think that’s something private and no one should ask that question. They shouldn’t even ask Ben Affleck.

“I’m on no dating apps. I’m not on Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, Humble — I am not on any of them. I don’t have judgement for people who are, great.”

And there you are.  Ben Affleck is NOT on Grindr.

You Tube’s Ricky Dillon Comes Out As Gay

Here’s another coming out story and this time it’s from You Tube. I love these You Tube stars, and the whole concept that people no longer have to depend on the old Hollywood machine to get recognized. The Internet has changed the world in so many ways.

It’s kind of a bittersweet coming out story, though. You can see why it took him this long to come out.

He insists they’re “great parents” and he had a “great childhood,” but the “fact of the matter is I’m gay and it’s something they don’t believe in.’

Here’s the link to more. There’s a video, and he mentions how hard he tried to be straight. It’s really a good example of what gay men go through all the time that we rarely ever hear about. It’s also something straight people will never understand.

I think he’ll be glad he came out.

Alleged Republican Hate Crime In Provincetown, Wilton Manors Mayor Dies From Heart Attack, Ryan Field Books

Alleged Republican Hate Crime In Provincetown

For 15 years we spent every Labor Day Week, Halloween, and New Year’s Eve on Cape Cod in Provincetown. And we loved every minute of it. It’s always been a wonderful little New England art colony, and a safe place for LGBTQ people…and everyone.

With that said, there was an incident recently where a Republican politician pulled into town in a massive army truck, and when he reached the town hall some guy ran up to his army truck and ripped off all of his Trump signs. After that, the Republican politician chased the guy down a back alley, caught him, and placed him under citizens arrest. Now that’s high drama for P’town.

And now the Republican is claiming he’s been the victim of a hate crime, however, there’s still a lot more to this story.

“The consequences for a regular citizen making a citizen’s arrest that is not justified by a conviction for a felony is potential liability in a civil lawsuit for false arrest, assault and battery, etc., and possible criminal prosecution,” the statement says.

You can read the rest here. I think it’s a shame something like this even happened in the first place.

Wilton Manors Mayor Dies of Heart Attack

For anyone who doesn’t know, Wilton Manors is a well known gay enclave in Southern Florida. I’ve never been there. I’m more familiar with Miami and Miami Beach, but we do know people from New Hope who’ve moved there because there’s such a large LGBTQ presence. So I naturally saw this trending all over social media this week.

Mayor Justin Flippen of Wilton Manors died of a massive heart attack at only 41 years old.

“We are very sad. Our hearts go out to Justin’s family and friends,” the Wilton Manors city officials said in a statement. “This is a horrible loss for our community.”

Here’s more, and there’s a nice photo of Flippen. RIP

Once Upon a Castle by Ryan Field, "Love Simon" Sequel On TV For June Pride Month, Ryan Field Books

Once Upon a Castle by Ryan Field

My newest release, Once Upon a Castle, just dropped and I only have a link to Smashwords right now. But it will be released on Amazon and all other venues. And it will be available in e-book or print book.

There’s a lot about this book that I enjoyed writing, and one point of interest is the setting. The majority of the book is set in a small town in Louisiana. But I wanted to make a point of NOT romanticizing the old south and old plantations…that old stereotype. In fact, I wanted to do just the opposite and I hope I did that.

Here’s the blurb and I’ll post a link below.

Barry is a bright, handsome young gay man in a loveless gay marriage who decides he needs to take a break from his life in New York. So he talks his best friend Shawn into leasing a beautiful, magical old house in Louisiana for one month called Magnolia Castle.

Shawn is a handsome ex-model and he’s married to an aggressive woman named Kayt who rules every aspect of his life. The thought of getting away from New York with Barry for a month is almost too good to be true.

There’s nothing about Magnolia Castle’s history that’s typical. It doesn’t even look like a castle, and it’s not one of those romanticized old southern plantations either. Magnolia Castle was built by wealthy people who were part of an anti-slavery society in the old south, and it was never intended to be a working plantation.

In order to afford Magnolia Castle for one month, Barry and Shawn find two unusual people to share the expense. One has massive world fame and the other is hiding a deep, personal secret no one knows.

They all think they are going there to reflect on their lives, however, they soon discover that nothing at Magnolia Castle can be predicted. And even though Barry never thought he would find true love again, he finds himself in a complicated situation with a man named Dusty Rhodes, where true love still might be a possibility.

“Love Simon” Sequel On TV For June Pride Month

I loved everything about the movie, “Love Simon,” so this was great to read. I just hope it doesn’t turn out to be disappointing like so many other film to TV projects I’ve seen. I also hope it doesn’t turn out to be yet more blatant Hollywood rainbow washing.  I’ve learned to be cautious.

Love, Simon spin-off will be coming to the small screen this June. As we reported on Queerty last November, the groundbreaking, 2018 Disney movie, which featured a gay lead character, has spawned a TV spin-off.

Here’s the link to read more. According to this piece, the title will be changed to “Love, Victor,” and an actor maned Michael Cimino will play Victor. I have no idea whether Cimino is openly gay or he’ll be playing gayface. You never know with Hollywood. As it stands, there’s already been controversy with this one. It was supposed to be on Disney but they didn’t think it was “family-friendly” so Hulu picked it up. It reminds me of the Hallmark debacle last year.

I’ll never understand the whole “family-friendly” thing. Gay people have families, too.  If you don’t like something with gay content just don’t watch it. I don’t watch Jesus or religious TV shows but you don’t see me complaining about them.

Kendle's Fire by Ryan Field

Written by Lambda-Award winning author Ryan Field, A Starr Is Born is a queer retelling of an old rags to riches trope that’s been reinterpreted many times, but this time it’s totally different with gay main characters, a gay love story, and a gay male point of view. It’s partly a light-hearted parody and partly sarcasm. It’s also highly erotic and charged with authentic, emotional gay male romance.

From the day they meet for the first time until the day their lives change forever, Harrison Parker and Morton Starr were destined for greatness—and each other. A Starr is Born follows the paths of handsome, badly-behaving rock star Harrison Parker and sexy gender-bending performer Morton Starr, who is just starting his career.

Morton is so madly in love with his husband, Harrison, he’ll do anything to please him, including overlooking all his self-destructive issues. However, as openly gay Morton gains more fame and success in the mainstream with his popular gay love songs and his unique gender-bending image, and Harrison continues to slide downhill, there comes a point where everything has to change. And when that climax finally happens, Morton isn’t certain about anything in his future or his marriage.

9 Year Old Boy Asks Pete Buttigieg For Help Coming Out, Richard Grenell Highest Ranking Gay Official In the US, Ryan Field Books

9 Year Old Boy Asks Pete Buttigieg For Help Coming Out

I like this story for many reasons, and one of those reasons is that gay kids know they are gay at very young ages. You’ll see straight people say things like, “Just let kids be kids and let them figure out what they want to be when they grow up.” And that is the dumbest sentence I’ve ever heard. We don’t have to figure out what we “want to be” when we grow up. We know we’re gay right from the start. And the fact that clueless straight people say things like this is not only homophobic, it also makes it more difficult for gay kids to admit they are gay.

Well, Pete Buttigieg “gets” it, and this 9 year old gay kid knows that.

The boy, who was later identified as Zachary Ro, wrote: “Thank you for being so brave. Would you help me tell the world I’m gay, too? I want to be brave like you.”

And this is just one more reason why I’m supporting Pete Buttigieg this time in the primary election. Sorry gay Bernie supporters, I’m going with what I know this time. And let’s face it, now that gay marriage is legal we’re not even a talking points anymore for politicians. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot more discrimination out there.

Here’s a link to read more.

Richard Grenell Highest Ranking Gay Official In the US

I never thought I would see the day when this happened for an openly gay man. It really wasn’t that long ago when “homosexual” men like Lem Billings were hidden in the background and kept out of the public eye.

History was made this week when Richard Grenell was appointed as Acting Director of National Intelligence. This will make him the highest ranking openly gay man in the country, at least for now. You may not agree with him on everything, however, he is focused on what’s happening to LGBTQ people globally. And that’s more than anyone else is doing right now.The things that are happening to LGBTQ people in some places are horrendous.

“I want them to understand that you cannot put someone in jail or kill someone simply for being gay,” Grenell told the assembled representatives, some from nations where LGBTQ people are targeted. “What we are trying to do is unite around something that is absolutely a uniting issue.”

Here’s the rest. Now if Pete Buttigieg gets elected, which I want to see happen, we will have THE highest ranking official in the free world.

Military Men Dance Together In Vintage Photo, Young Male Refugees Selling Sex To Survive, Ryan Field Books

Military Men Dance Together In Vintage Photo

I love seeing these old vintage photos of gay men that were taken long before anyone even referred to men as gay. I always wonder what life must have been like for them. It couldn’t have been easy.

A vintage photo of unknown origin shows two shirtless military guys, dancing chest to chest and cheek to cheek.

You can check it out, here. And if you do a simple search sometimes you’ll come up with more vintage pics like this.

It’s also interesting because two men dancing together like this has always been so taboo, and even today it still is in most places.

Young Male Refugees Selling Sex To Survive

This piece talks about what goes on Berlin’s Tiergarten Park with young Afghan and Iranian refugees, and what they are forced to do to survive.

“If you didn’t pay any attention, you wouldn’t notice it,” says Khamis, 31. “But the prostitution was happening right in front of them [around the public toilets]. The elephant was in the room and no one wanted to see it.”

Here’s a link to read it in full. There are some chilling photos. The article also states that although prostitution is legal in Germany, it’s far more complicated for refugees who are waiting for their documents. And there are teenagers involved. One of the boys calls this way of life, “one step away from hell.”

I really despise older gay men who target young gay men in their teens.
