Welcoming Your Gay Child’s Partner Into Your Home

You would think this would be simple common sense. You would think that a parent would welcome their gay child’s partner into their home the same way they would welcome their straight child’s partner. Apparently, it still doesn’t always work this way and there are still gay people dealing with not being accepted by their parents.

This is about how a young woman’s partner’s family has welcomed her into their lives, but the young woman’s own family has not accepted her gay relationship.

“For those of you that don’t know, i’m not accepted by my parents for being gay. i have struggled for five years with them and decided this year to cut off contact. this is my first christmas not with them and this is how sarahs (my fiancée) dad tagged my gift 😭”

Here’s more. There’s still so much of this happening to LGBTQ people.

RIP Jerry Herman

The iconic composer/lyricist, Jerry Herman, passed away this week at 88 years old. He always focused on melody driven music and people loved it. It was feel good music that made people want to listen to it again and again. His music will live on forever.

He was also responsible for one of the biggest gay hits ever produced, “La Cage aux Folles.”

In 1983, after 17 years of flops and self-doubt, Mr. Herman’s last blockbuster, “La Cage aux Folles,” with a book by Harvey Fierstein, hit Broadway as a breakthrough for gay consciousness in mainstream entertainment. Its social and political implications were muted for what Variety called “the importance of human commitment, loyalty and self-pride.”

There’s more here. It goes into a lot more detail about Herman’s life, his partner, and the fact that he was diagnosed HIV positive in 1985.

May he RIP.
