Keanu Reeves Was In a Homoerotic Thriller; Fake Viral Petition Against Hallmark's Gay Movies; Ryan Field Books

Keanu Reeves Was In a Homoerotic Thriller

Now here’s a name I haven’t heard in ages…Bruce LaBruce. He’s a Canadian filmmaker and underground director who’s known for his gay films that combine art and gay porn. But that’s a very general description, and not very good either. I’ve always liked his work and sometimes it’s inspired me to combine gay romance with explicit gay sex in books. Click that link on his name to read more. I remember reading a lot about him in the 90s.

According to this article, LaBruce posted old photos on Insta recently and a few were of Keanu Reeves that date back to 1984, to a time when Reeves was in a play titled, Wolf Boy.

I never knew about this, and obviously neither did many other people. I don’t even remember the play. I was too young to really be part of that scene. Apparently though, it was very big in some circles.

The same documentary says, “The play’s homoerotic undertones made it a cult hit with Toronto’s gay community.”

You can check it all out, here. There are a few excellent photos.

Fake Viral Petition Against Hallmark’s Gay Movies

I like Hallmark movies, but no one can dispute the fact that they are some of the most heteronormative movies ever produced. And there’s nothing wrong with that either. They target an audience and they know what they are doing. So when Hallmark commented last week this way, a lot of people were surprised.

“We’re open to really any type of movie of any type of relationship in any space,” he said.

Then they announced they were looking for pitches with gay content, which sounded even more encouraging. After that happened, right wing deplorable conservatives went berserk and started a petition that they are claiming has been a huge success. However, according to this article, the petition hasn’t been as successful as they claim.

You can read it all, here. I know nothing about the petition and I haven’t been following the story closely. But I did see a few posts about this on social media and I saw how viciously these conservatives who watch Hallmark TV reacted to just the thought of gay content in a Hallmark movie. It was not encouraging. The comments weren’t just homophobic, they were downright stupid. However, I also know a lot of people who love Hallmark movies and they wouldn’t have a problem at all with gay content.

It always seems to be these extreme groups on either side of the spectrum that love to ruin things for everyone.
