The Gay Angle In John Travolta’s “The Fanatic”

The Fanatic is one of those movies I didn’t hear much about through mainstream promotion, and I probably would have missed it if I didn’t follow Devon Sawa on Twitter. Sawa plays a supporting role with John Travolta in The Fanatic and he shared the information to his followers. And it’s a shame The Fanatic didn’t get more mainstream attention. I liked it and I think the entire cast gave excellent performances. It’s also based on a real life story.

The basic story revolves around Travolta’s star struck character, Moose, who is a huge fan of Devon Sawa’s character, Hunter, and Moose will stop at nothing to get close to Hunter. Hunter is a celebrity and Moose is obsessed with him. You could even say that Moose is in love with Hunter. Moose is also mentally challenged and he doesn’t even realize he’s stalking someone. However,  that alone is interesting in the sense that instead of the symbolic “hunter” going after the “moose,” it’s the other way about in The Fanatic. That couldn’t have been done by accident and I thought it was a nice touch. I like those not so subtle literary touches in films.

The gay angle is also different, because this movie wouldn’t by any means be categorized as LGBTQ content. In fact, it’s not even mentioned aloud in the film, and we’re not even sure Moose identifies as a gay man. All we know is that he’s absolutely infatuated with Hunter and he will stop at nothing to get close to Hunter and get his attention. Of course if I had been writing this script I would have gone into more detail about Moose’s attraction to Hunter. I probably would have had a few more homoerotic scenes as well. The opportunity was there, but there’s really only one slightly homoerotic scene where Moose rests his head on Hunter’s chest for a minute or two, and after that the sexual attraction is just implied. There’s nothing wrong with that either. Sometimes it works even better that way.

The ending is actually a surprise, so no details about that. I just wish they’d given the viewers more information in the end. It was an unexpected, unusual ending, but it didn’t disappoint me either. We streamed this on Amazon and I wouldn’t have a problem recommending it to anyone. Travolta and Sawa both gave wonderful performances. If there’s ever going to be a remake of the film, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, I certainly hope Sawa gets to play George.

The Sunning Your Taint Area Craze

There’s a new trend out where people are giving sun exposure to their perineum area. For those who don’t know, the perineum is also known as the taint area…it’s that part of your body that’s located between your anus and your genitals. But you have to do it nude. I’m not joking about this either.

“In a mere 30 seconds of sunlight on your butthole, you will receive more energy from this electric node than you would in an entire day being outside with your clothes on,” says an influencer, who goes by Ra of Earth.

You can read more about sunning your taint area, here.    Or, some are referring to it as sunning your butthole.
