The Word “Queer” Was Used As a Slur Against Pete Buttigieg
This is what an elected official in Tennessee recently said about Pete Buttigieg.
“We’ve got a queer running for president, if that ain’t about as ugly as you can get,” Sevier County Commissioner Warren Hurst said to the crowd after telling them to “wake up.”
You can read the rest, here. The county where this guy was elected issued apologies. But that still doesn’t change anything about the word he used. The word “Queer” is still a pejorative for many homophobic people, and it always will be.
Jonathan Groff Dressed As Mary Poppins
I like this article for several reasons, one of which is that there’s always been speculation that Mary Poppins was a lesbian. The author of Mary Poppins, PL Travers, was most likely a lesbian and even though it’s rarely mentioned people have been discussing this for a while. I posted a few things about it a while back.
I also like Jonathan Groff and I haven’t seen him in the news in a while. He’s in a new Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, and he’s a huge, serious fan of Julie Andrews.
In fact, he was able to prove his love of the actress stretches back to his earliest years. When he was aged 3, he was so obsessed with the movie Mary Poppins, his mom allowed him to dress as the character for Halloween, complete with lipstick, trademark hat, and bag.
Here’s more, with a seriously adorable video of Groff.
