Billy Porter Talks about Homophobia in Show Business

In the course of any given day, on any social media outlet, I see all kinds of homophobia. It can range from obtuse, to passive aggressive, to outright discrimination. Sometimes they don’t even know they are being homophobic. And that’s just the tip of it all. What Billy Porter is talking about here goes much deeper.

Porter referred to the music business as  “hugely, violently homophobic. It just was never about the music. It was about trying to fix myself so other people would feel comfortable around me.”

You can check this out in full, here. It also mentions a few positive things as well.

Gay Man Beaten With Hammers on Grindr Hook Up

Here’s another story about hook up culture gone wrong. A gay man who was looking for a hook up was catfished on Grindr, and then beaten with a hammer. It sounds as though he’s lucky to be alive.

Marc Power, a gay man who lives in Dublin, Ireland, reportedly set out to meet a man he was chatting up on Grindr when a group of teenage boys set a trap for him. They allegedly left him left bloodied and scraped up, attacking him with hammers and vandalizing his car.

Here’s the link. Power posted photos of his injuries on Facebook, with statements. It’s an interesting piece that goes a lot deeper into the entire concept of gay people dealing with this kind of violence all the time, especially with regard to hook up culture.
