Cover Reveal: How To Be a Good Gay Bottom; Disabled Bisexual Fitness Model Inspires Others; Ryan Field Books

New Release Cover Reveal: How To Be a Good Gay Bottom

How To Be a Good Gay Bottom is not a clinical book and it’s not trying to be one, however, I wrote this book because I wanted to create a gay character who is absolutely terrified of anal sex so much that it consumes his entire life. People automatically think all gay men just get right into anal intercourse as if it’s our birthright, however, nothing could be more distant from the truth. It’s a lot more complicated for most of us.

So here’s a cover reveal, and here’s a blurb. It should be coming out soon and I’ll post links when I get them.

I’ve posted a free excerpt from this book already, here.

Book Description –How to Be a Good Gay Bottom
While minding his own business at Tea Dance one Sunday afternoon, Paul stumbles across a handsome young openly gay politician named Gordon. Although Paul isn’t actively looking for a relationship and he doesn’t even like politics, in spite of his own misgivings he can’t deny his attraction.

For one thing, Paul is a gay virgin who has never had anal sex with anyone. He’s not only terrified of anal sex he doesn’t even know how to be a gay bottom. There’s also the fact that Gordon is running for Governor as an openly gay man, and Paul absolutely despises the dirty business of politics.

And yet Paul continues to see Gordon, because there’s something decent about Gordon he can’t ignore. Gordon makes him feel like the kind of man he’s always wanted to be, and that alone is worth all the obstacles that stand in his way. Though Paul is not certain he’ll ever get used to Gordon’s political ambitions, and he has no idea whether Gordon will be elected governor, he is determined to learn how to be a good gay bottom, and he will let nothing stand in his way to get there.

Disabled Bisexual Fitness Model Inspires Others

This story is inspiring. It’s real. It’s about a great guy who’s overcome obstacles and who hopes he can now motivate others to do the same.

Lucas describes himself as “different.” He was born with one arm and identifies as bisexual. This often made him feel like an outsider growing up.

Throughout his teenage years, he struggled with accepting his sexuality, grappling with whether he was attracted to guys or girls or both.

You can check it out, here. There are some excellent photos of Lucas.

Gay Star News Shutters Due To ‘Rainbow Washing’; Gay Teen Boys Go To Prom Together; Gay Footballer Andy Brennan Is Glad He Came Out As Gay; Ryan Field Books

Gay Star News Shutters Due To ‘Rainbow Washing’

I have been a huge supporter of Gay Star News since they launched. I’ve read them, I’ve linked to them, and I have endlessly tried to promote them in my own small humble way. I did this because I liked the content and because I knew I was getting LGBTI content from LGBTI sources. In other words, they weren’t a non-gay press exploiting our culture or our news for clickbait during Pride Month. They were authentic.

Unfortunately, they’ve announced that they will be shuttering. And that’s partly because of tokenism and ‘rainbow washing.’ This is ‘rainbow washing.’ Many of us don’t even realize it’s happening until someone points it out to us. I saw this happening the entire month of June.

Rainbow-washing allows people, governments, and corporations that don’t do tangible work to support LGBTQ+ communities at any other time during the year to slap a rainbow on top of something in the month of June and call it allyship.

Here’s a link to more.  This is why I’m always cautious with the word ‘ally.’

And here’s one of the reasons why GSN is shuttering, in their own words.

Rather than working with us to engage and serve LGBTI people year round, many have chosen to ‘rainbow wash’. They have turned their logo rainbow colored for Pride week or month and – at best – made a small donation to an LGBTI good cause. Worst still, we have learned that some brands have done this while at the same time funding anti-LGBTI politicians to the tune of millions of dollars. Tokenism has reached a new low.

Here’s the link to this article. I highly suggest reading it because I foresee more of this to come. As long as we let it happen it’s not going to stop either.

Gay Teen Boys Go To Prom Together

I never get tired of seeing these stories and I think that’s because it’s still not something that’s been completely normalized. I took a girl to my prom and I faked being straight. I can’t say I had a terrible time. The girl was great and we actually had a great time. But frankly, I would much rather have taken her brother and spent the night making out and having car sex like all the straight kids.

And I’m certain there are still teens like me out there who are faking it like I once did, so this story is still inspiring.

Michael Martin and Logan Westrope, gay teens from West Virginia, are here to make sure your Monday gets off to a heartwarming start. The couple went to Martin’s senior prom together last year and photos of their big night are taking the web by storm again.

Here’s the rest. There’s a very nice photo.

Gay Footballer Andy Brennan Is Glad He Came Out As Gay

I’ve always maintained a firm stand with regard to coming out as gay. I believe no one should ever be forced into doing it and they should do it when they feel ready. Every gay man in the closet has different circumstances. But I’ve also always said that I’ve never once seen a gay man regret coming out of the closet. Not once. It’s always a relief.

Here’s proof that it’s a relief:

“The reaction has been amazing, I haven’t had one negative comment. That was something I feared a lot with everyone I told, but everyone – team-mates, family, friends – has been amazing. I’ve had no problems with opposition fans either, everyone’s been really supportive. The way it’s affected my life has been only positive, it’s been so much better.”

He’s absolutely correct. Here’s more.

If anyone’s reading this and thinking about coming out as gay, the ironic thing is that while you’re internalizing this and agonizing over it, which is perfectly normal for you to do, most people already suspect that you are gay. I’ve seen it all my life. I have a nephew and a niece who came out as gay and I knew long before they made the announcement. I knew it was just a matter of time for both of them. But they had to do it on their terms.

Lil Nas X Allegedly Won’t Rap With Pete Buttigieg; Porn Star ‘Silas’ Dead At 25 Years Old; Ryan Field Books

Lil Nas X Allegedly Won’t Rap With Pete Buttigieg

I love Lil Nas X and his music, and not just because he came out as gay last month. I really like what he does. How he identifies, for me, has nothing to do with how much I love his work.

I also think this was a very smart move on his part. He’s a performer and he’s interested in entertaining people, not in getting political.

The Daily Beast claims sources revealed Buttigieg had been pitched to recite lyrics via video to Old Town Road as part of a segment with Lil Nas X. However, Lil Nas X declined the idea. According to their source, he voiced no opposition to Buttigieg personally but said he didn’t want to appear to endorse any particular candidate at this stage.

The article goes on to mention more about how Lil Nas X has made history. There are a couple of photos, too.

Here’s the link.

Porn Star ‘Silas’ Dead At 25 Years Old

These stories always gut me. He’s so young. A porn star who went by the stage name, ‘Silas,’ recently passed away. His real name was Stephen Morgan Jr.

Adult film perform Silas, whose real name is Stephen Morgan, Jr., has died of an apparent drug overdose. He was 25 years old.

Here’s a link. They go on to mention a few of the films he’s done.

RIP

The ‘Twinning Grooms’ Story: When Gay Couples Resemble Twins; Queer Eye’s Jonathan Was Tormented In School With the Gay F Word; Ryan Field Books

The “Twinning Grooms’ Story: When Gay Couples Resemble Twins

This is interesting. I’ve heard about it before but never really paid much attention to it. I do recall that I once knew a gay couple who dressed alike all the time, and while that was fine for them Tony and I decided a long time ago we would never dress like twins. And we’re together more than 25 years now. So it’s cute to look like twins and wear the same clothes, but it’s not for everyone.

Now, the whole “boyfriend twin” phenomenon has been going on for a while. Two guys start dating, and over the course of the relationship, they slowly being to morph into mirror images of each other.

From my own personal experience, knowing many gay couples in long term relationships all my adult life, I’ve never known that many who looked like twins.

You can read the rest, here.  Aside from the fact that there’s less gender politics, one of the similarities between straight marriage and gay marriage that I’ve always seen (and experienced first hand) is that each partner in the marriage works to maintain their own identity and individuality

Queer Eye’s Jonathan Was Tormented In School With the Gay F Word

I think everyone knows what the gay F word is…it rhymes with bag. I despise that word so much I won’t even write it. Obviously, in this case the gay F word is one of the most offensive things you can call a gay man.

But it is a bit ironic that the word ‘Queer’ was once considered just as offensive. And that’s the title of their TV show. In fact, that word is still used today as a pejorative and many gay men find it just as offensive as the gay F word. This is one reason why I’ve never identified as ‘Queer.’ I identify as a gay man. I don’t care if other people identify as ‘Queer.’ That’s their business. I choose not to do that, mainly for the reasons that Jonathan is talking about below with regard to the gay F word.

‘I couldn’t walk in these halls, not 10 steps without someone – and brace yourselves – I got called the F word every 10 steps I took,’ he said. ‘At that time, a gay-straight alliance, I didn’t think, would ever be literally allowed.’

You can read the rest here. The story goes into a lot more detail about his personal experience.

Louis Tomlinson, One Direction, and Homophobic Gay References In British Tabloid; The All Male Naked Yoga Classes; Ryan Field Books

Louis Tomlinson, One Direction, and Homophobic Gay References In British Tabloid

There’s a much bigger picture with this article that so many people will not understand at a glance, which is sad. It’s about shame, disgrace, and all the things that LGBTQ people have had to deal with all their lives. Gay sex or just being gay should not automatically create an image of shame or disgrace. I also want to be clear that I’m not throwing any shade at Tomlinson. He’s a victim in this, too.

With that said, a UK tabloid published a long article about One Direction and Louis Tomlinson was not happy with it. The article mentioned ‘gay sex’ rumors in a way that suggests there is something wrong with being gay and gay sex…that there should be shame involved.

The article was published in The Mirror with the headline: “Drugs, meltdowns and ‘gay sex’ rumours – how ‘rivalry and hatred’ tore One Direction apart.”

I’m not going to speculate about anything here and I have no idea what happened with One Direction. I’m only pointing out that being gay should have nothing at all to do with shame, drugs, or meltdowns.

Here’s the rest.

The All Male Naked Yoga Classes

On a much lighter note, here’s another story about the all male naked yoga classes that seem to be gaining in popularity. The classes are run by an adorable instructor named Dan Carter.

“It is a group of primarily gay and bisexual men,” Carter explains, though he hopes to one day offer co-ed naked yoga classes.

You can read more here, and there’s an excellent photo of Carter practicing the art of yoga. His students range in age from the 20s to 80s. I think it’s wonderful.

Jake Gyllenhaal Splains ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ Again; NBC Cancels Will and Grace; Ryan Field Books

Jake Gyllenhaal Splains ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ Again

Although I’ve never been fond of the way book publishing and Hollywood have always ignored and dismissed openly gay authors and actors, I’ve never held it against movies like Brokeback Mountain. And this post is not a rant. The world was a very different place when that film (and book) came out and we all thought very differently. Legal same sex marriage was still a far off dream for us. The Bush family still controlled the Republican party and we didn’t even know who Barack Obama was back then. The world, indeed, has changed.

BM was the only mainstream gay content we had and most of us were just thrilled to get it at all. I remember the discussions. I was covering LGBTQ bloggers back then for a web site called, BestGayBlogs.com, and there was a big division between gay people who supported BM and those who were insulted by it. This discussion is still going on today.

And it’s still interesting to read comments from straight actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, all these years later.

Looking back on the project, Gyllenhaal says it was the vehicle that helped propel him into stardom.
“It opened tons of doors,” he recalls. “It was crazy [and] it was amazing. It’s defined my career in different ways.”

Never once does Gyllenhaal mention that it might have been questionable for him to play gay face, or that this might have been the beginning of the discussion on cultural appropriation, as we know it today. But then again, no straight white male actor ever mentioned that it might have been questionable to play Asian face in the earlier days of cinema.

You can read the rest here.

NBC Cancels Will and Grace

Will and Grace is another good throwback example of what times were like for gay people in the 90s. I never watched it much back then because as a gay man I couldn’t identify with any of it, but I have read all the comments and opinions.

Will & Grace, which ushered in visibility for LGBTI people (primarily gay men), premiered in 1998. It lasted for eight seasons, before NBC brought it back for a revival in 2017.

It did bring visibility to gay men, and many of us were thrilled about that because we’d never had that before, but it also came with a long list of flaws.

You can read the rest here. I would have loved to have seen a spin off of Will and Grace starring Sean Hayes in 2017. Now that would have been in keeping with how times have changed, and an openly gay actor would have been able to carry his own TV show for a change. Apparently, Hollywood doesn’t agree.

That Anonymous Closeted Gay Footballer Coming Out On Twitter; Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show; Ryan Field Books

That Anonymous Footballer Coming Out On Twitter

This is my 3rd post about this story, but I hope it’s not my last. I’d like to see a real life happy ending. I don’t know the exact dates, but a professional footballer in the UK has been tweeting about coming out as gay, but he’s been having a rough time actually coming out. I’m not going to speculate on this one for the most obvious reason: coming out is never easy for any gay man.

Twitter account allegedly maintained by an anonymous sports star about to come out as gay has been conspicuously deleted, just one day before the user would have revealed his identity.

Here’s more. He gave an explanation before he deleted his account. It sounds real to me. Even though I hope he finds the strength to come out, I support his decision not to come out until he’s ready.

As you would imagine, the comments are mixed. And maybe it is a hoax, but I’m not going to take a chance and decide that without more information. This guy could be in a serious crisis right now.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show

I see people laughing and joking about high end fashion shows all the time on social media and frankly those people get on my nerves. People should understand that whenever a fashion designer…or artist…creates something completely outrageous it’s not meant to be taken seriously in the sense of every day fashion. These outrageous creations are artistic interpretations of style and design. The designers don’t expect John Doe Average to actually wear these creations out in public. They are meant for shows, to entertain and show a sense of style. They are works of art. And that’s really not a difficult concept to grasp.

With that said, here’s an interesting piece about the legendary designer, Jean Paul Gaultier.

His gender-fluid approach to design – putting men in skirts in the 1980s and shunning demure, dress design for more confrontational women’s couture – quickly earned him the moniker of the enfant terrible of French fashion. He gleefully embraced the title.

Here’s a link to read more. I love his work.
