Generic Truvada In 2020; The New Lavender Scare Bill; What Is Alternative Media

Generic Truvada In 2020

With so many on the PrEP regimen now, it’s good to see this happening.

Exciting news in the fight against HIV/AIDS: drug manufacturer Gilead has announced it will release its patent on the anti-HIV drug Truvada a year early.

Here’s a link where it goes into a lot more detail. The comments are mixed and I’m never totally sure why so many gay men would be against PrEP. So far it’s the best scientific alternative there is. That’s basic common sense.

The New Lavender Scare Bill

Between the late 1940s and 1960 many federal employees were being targeted and fired because it was assumed they were gay. (In those day’s I’m sure the word commonly used was homosexual, not gay.) They refer to it the Lavender Scare. It must have been a terrible time, and now Democratic lawmakers are trying to make amends for this atrocity.

The reintroduced Lavender Offense Victim Exoneration Act, or LOVE Act, aims to redress the harms done during the so-called Lavender Scare. At least 1,000 people were purged from the State Department alone.

You can read more of the details, here.

What Is Alternative Media?

I didn’t even know there was something called the Alternative Media until today. I saw it mentioned on Twitter and then I did a search to find out more.

Alternative media is a form of mass media that has arisen as a contrast to mainstream media. Mainstream media is mass media (newspapers, radio, television, magazines, movies, Internet, etc.) that disseminate information that is inline with the thoughts, interests and opinions of the current general society.

Here’s the link. It gives more examples and explains in more detail how Alternative Media works. I think a lot of people are sick of the mainstream media for a variety of reasons. One thing for me is that the old time formats don’t work anymore. That fake way of presenting the news, with fake smiles and a spin on facts. I always feel sorry for people who don’t have access to the internet and can only get their news from TV. They are missing more than half of what they should know.
