International Mr. Leather and Condomless Sex Ban

About 10 years ago there was a huge discussion in the gay erotic romance genre about whether or not characters should use condoms in sex scenes. It could become highly charged with emotion at times. Some believed it was fiction and escapism, so there was no need for condoms. Others believed it was important for all characters to use condoms during sex. Up until recently, I never once wrote a book or story where a character had sex without a condom. Unless they were in a monogamous relationship and it was explained in detail, my characters always used condoms.

With that said, a lot has changed in the last 10 years with the PrEP regimen. I don’t always make characters wear condoms now, especially if I mention PrEP in the book. And organizations like Intentional Mr. Leather are now re-thinking the use of condoms.

“Renslow called the widespread availability of PrEP ‘the advent of a new day for [gay] sexuality,’ adding, ‘our community has learned a lot from this [HIV/AIDS] crisis, and we’ve matured,’” Hornetwrites. “As it stands… the ban mostly ‘exists in people’s heads,’” Renslow told Hornet, adding that “IML has not turned away vendors for ‘promoting’ barebacking since [2014].”

Christian Mom Schools Gay Dad and Gets a Surprise

I’ve had things like this happen to me frequently on social media. Someone who is not gay will start to school me on what it’s like to be gay. It’s always interesting to see their reactions when they realize they don’t know as much as they thought they did.  

In this case it’s a Christian woman who decided to ‘splain’ the Bible and homosexuality to a gay man. However, the woman wound up with a big surprise. 

During the swap, Nina assumes the gays dads aren’t religious, so tries to school Jarius on what the Bible says about homosexuality and judging others.

Then one hot summer afternoon in 1940 everything changes. While Joe Buddy is swimming in the creek he accidentally meets a tall, dark cowboy from Wyoming named Clay. He’s a drifter who is only passing through North Carolina on his way to Florida, where he plans to enlist in the military.




There’s an instant connection, and Joe Buddy winds up bringing Clay home for supper that night because he feels sorry for him. However, Joe Buddy suspects there’s more to Clay’s story than he’s telling, and he persuades Clay to stick around long enough to find out. As each event unfolds, these two young men move forward in ways that neither one of them ever expected. Another Democratic Presidential Hopeful Might Come Out As Gay

As far as I can tell, this is pure speculation. There is no proof at all. However, it doesn’t surprise me. There are still many people in the closet and coming out is still one of the most difficult things for a gay person to do. 

Said candidate has reportedly lived in the closet for fear that coming out as gay would harm his political career. Now, after witnessing the massive donor haul by the South Bend, IN Mayor, the closet candidate wants to come out. Having kept several girlfriends in the past, reports say he might come out as bisexual so as not to look like an opportunist or a liar.

Tokyo’s Rainbow Pride

Here’s a story on the global front that is more uplifting than what I usually see in the news. It’s all about Tokyo’s annual pride event. 

‘I Have Pride‘ is the theme for 2019, a simple yet effective statement now that the country seems to be on its way to recognize same-sex marriages.

Disney Cancels Show with Gay Character

I didn’t even know there was a show like this. Apparently, there’s a “tween” show with a gay character on Disney called Andi Mack that was just canceled. I check out the gay presses several times in the course of a day and never saw it mentioned. The show even won awards. 

Andi Mack made history and headlines in October 2017 when 13-year-old Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush) confided in friends Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and Buffy (Sofia Wylie) that he had a crush on Andi’s boyfriend, Jonah (Asher Angel), which marked the beginning of Disney Channel’s first coming-out storyline.

There’s more, here. There’s also a video and a few photos. I never even saw this trending on Twitter, not once.

"His Hands" Psychosexual Short Film With Two Men; The All Male Naked Yoga Class; Gay Marvel Character and "Avenger's Endgame"; The Rescuer by Ryan Field

HIS HANDS: Psychosexual Short Film With Two Men

A new short film, His Hands, is about to premiere and from what I’m seeing there are a few innovative aspects you don’t see often in any films, let alone films in the erotic genre.

Through dark, haunting images with no dialogue, an older man (Philip Brisebois) beckons a young, strapping man (Arron Blake) over to his flat for a life-altering evening. Blake’s menacing character engages in an intense ritual with the old man that includes donning stunning diamond earrings and black lipstick before the night turns even darker. 

Here’s a link to more. There’s a photo and a trailer. It’s most definitely not JK Rowling’s mainstream Harry Potter, with safe and questionable characters who may or may not be gay, and I can’t wait to see it. 


The All Male Naked Yoga Class

Here’s something else that’s different. There’s a yoga instructor in Washington, DC, who opened an all male naked yoga class for gay and bi-sexual men. The link is actually an interview with the instructor. 

It is magical having an hour alone with your body, without even your clothes to distract you. For there to be a non-sexualized space where gay and bisexual men are naked is incredibly liberating and self-actualizing.


Here’s the link. I think it’s important to emphasize the non-sexual aspect. Most people always think there’s sex involved whenever there’s nudity. But most people have never been to a nude beach. Once you remove all your clothes and you adjust to being naked with other naked people around, you don’t even notice the difference. It just feels perfectly natural. 


Gay Marvel Character and “Avenger’s Endgame”

I haven’t seen anything trending this aggressively in a long time. Everywhere I go on social media there’s something more about “Avenger’s Endgame.” The fandom with this just amazes me. I saw a hashtag earlier where people were actually thanking “Avenger’s Endgame.” Thanking them, after these people paid good money to see them. This kind of dedicated fandom fascinates me. 

In any event, this article has an LGBT POV.

 “It was important to us as we did four of these films, we wanted a gay character somewhere in them. We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that.”

Ukrainian Police Raid Gay Bar

Here’s another update on the story from the Ukraine where a gay bar was raided. According to this, about 25 cops stormed into the bar at 1 in the morning and forced 30 people to go down on the floor, face down, for 3 hours. While the patrons were humiliated with gay slurs, the cops took their phones. 

It turns out that the National Police of Ukraine considers sexual contacts of adult men as immoral acts, a regular activity of a night club (dances and shows) as a criminal offense, and distribution of condoms as promoting debauchery…

Gay and the Fear of Aging

Here’s a story about a young gay man who was afraid of getting older. I know that I’ve never been too thrilled about it. However, he makes some great observations. 

As one matures you have to overcome certain things. This was definitely one of them for me. I did not want to hate myself for something I have no control over.

20 Photos of the Titanic

Unmentionable: The Men Who Loved On The Titanic by [Field, Ryan]When I wrote my story about the Titanic there were no photos like this around. I would have loved to have seen them, especially in color. Getting information about the Titanic was simple, but trying to figure out how to work an LGBT story line in wasn’t as easy. 

In any event, here’s a link to an article with 20 photos of the Titanic that most people have never seen. 

This photo was taken before the ship set sail on its historical grand voyage. After moving tons of luggage onto the boat, people could not wait to get situated and see what was in store for the journey to come.

One hundred years ago on April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg on its way to New York. Though it had been considered unsinkable by all standards, it went down in the cold waters of the Atlantic, taking with it stories of love and romance that weren’t discussed openly in those days. This was especially true with stories of love between two men. One of those hidden stories of the Titanic dealt with the unyielding love and strong romance between a young man named Liam and his older lover, Oliver. Because Oliver was a wealthy business man in America with a great deal of notoriety, the only safe way to bring Liam aboard the Titanic was to dress him in fine women’s clothing and claim he was Oliver’s shy, distant cousin returning to America for the first time in many years. They finally begin to relax when they realize that everyone on the ship believes Liam is a woman, until that fateful night on April 14th when destiny intervened and changed their lives forever.

The fact that he lives way up on remote Buddy’s Mountain in Western North Carolina, with two spinster aunts, doesn’t help his situation either. Although his aunts devoted their lives to him, one aunt never got over a long lost love and the other was born a man who always identified as a woman.

Then one hot summer afternoon in 1940 everything changes. While Joe Buddy is swimming in the creek he accidentally meets a tall, dark cowboy from Wyoming named Clay. He’s a drifter who is only passing through North Carolina on his way to Florida, where he plans to enlist in the military.

There’s an instant connection, and Joe Buddy winds up bringing Clay home for supper that night because he feels sorry for him. However, Joe Buddy suspects there’s more to Clay’s story than he’s telling, and he persuades Clay to stick around long enough to find out. Ukrainian Police Raid Gay Bar

Here’s another update on the story from the Ukraine where a gay bar was raided. According to this, about 25 cops stormed into the bar at 1 in the morning and forced 30 people to go down on the floor, face down, for 3 hours. While the patrons were humiliated with gay slurs, the cops took their phones. 

It turns out that the National Police of Ukraine considers sexual contacts of adult men as immoral acts, a regular activity of a night club (dances and shows) as a criminal offense, and distribution of condoms as promoting debauchery…

Gay and the Fear of Aging

Here’s a story about a young gay man who was afraid of getting older. I know that I’ve never been too thrilled about it. However, he makes some great observations. 

As one matures you have to overcome certain things. This was definitely one of them for me. I did not want to hate myself for something I have no control over.

20 Photos of the Titanic

Unmentionable: The Men Who Loved On The Titanic by [Field, Ryan]When I wrote my story about the Titanic there were no photos like this around. I would have loved to have seen them, especially in color. Getting information about the Titanic was simple, but trying to figure out how to work an LGBT story line in wasn’t as easy. 

In any event, here’s a link to an article with 20 photos of the Titanic that most people have never seen. 

This photo was taken before the ship set sail on its historical grand voyage. After moving tons of luggage onto the boat, people could not wait to get situated and see what was in store for the journey to come.

Because Oliver was a wealthy business man in America with a great deal of notoriety, the only safe way to bring Liam aboard the Titanic was to dress him in fine women’s clothing and claim he was Oliver’s shy, distant cousin returning to America for the first time in many years. They finally begin to relax when they realize that everyone on the ship believes Liam is a woman, until that fateful night on April 14th when destiny intervened and changed their lives forever.

Pete Buttigieg’s ‘Peace Deal’ With Chick-fil-a

I feel a little ridiculous right now posting about something like this, but it’s news and I’m sharing. With all the serious atrocities happening around the world to LGBT people, from Brunei to Chechnya, the last thing I ever thought I would see is someone mention a peace deal between the LGBT community and Chick-fil-a. Maybe that’s because I don’t eat fast food. I’m not sure.

In any event, here’s what Pete Buttigieg wants to do with Chick-fil-a.

However, Buttigieg wants to work towards a world where gay people can eat chicken guilt-free.

He doesn’t approve of their politics, but he does like their chicken. I’m not joking. Here’s the link.

Maybe there’s a political strategy with this one that I’m missing.

Seattle’s Boylesque Scene

Apparently, a new form of burlesque is gaining popularity in Seattle, only this time it’s more erotic and sensual.

Seattle’s “boylesque” performers range along the gender spectrum, but they all put on a provocative show, whether those smiles on the audience’s faces are from laughter or thirst.

Police Raid Gay Ukrainian Club

Here’s more LGBT news on the global front. This time it’s about a gay club that was raided in the Ukraine.

Once inside the club, police officers forced everyone to lie down. At the time, about 30 visitors were at the club, alongside several members of staff.

Here’s the link. It’s hard to believe things like this still happen in other parts of the world. It doesn’t look as though LGBTQ discrimination is going away any time soon.


Chasten Buttigieg’s First Date With Pete Was ‘Pretty Darn Cute’

One of the things I’ve always loved about meeting other gay couples is listening to the stories about how they met. I even like it when gay couples repeat the stories a few times, and they always do repeat them. I could listen for hours and compare how they met with other stories I’ve heard. You see, gay couples don’t always meet like straight couples meet. 

But that’s a whole different topic. This story is about Pete and Chasten Buttigieg and it sounds just like any other straight couple. 

“Our first date – it was actually supposed to be coffee, but I got stuck in rush hour traffic getting out of Chicago,” Chasten says. “So we moved it to dinner. And when I pulled up in front of his house to pick him up, he opened the door and we both said ‘howdy’ at the same time and then we both said, ‘what, that’s my word!’ It was kind of a cute meet cute.”

Tony and I met in the 90s and things were a little different back then. At the time we were both VERY young, and we’re not that much older than Pete and Chasten are now, but I guess we missed that formal dating part. We never did the heteronormative date nights. Tony and I met in a gay club near Philadelphia on a night when there were naked male strippers. There was nothing cute about it.

Excerpt: 
He kept Misty at the far end of the barn in a special area where all the larger breeds were housed. They all had well secured kennels and long runs so the dogs would never be cramped. No two dogs were ever kept in the same kennel together. They all had their own fluffy beds, bowls, and blankets. Each pen was heated and air conditioned for their comfort, and they were able to go outside in a secured run whenever they wanted. Keith had worked hard for years to make his SPCA more like a hotel or resort than a clinical government facility. It had always been his fantasy to fill their lives with everything that made their stay at his SPCA more like a real home. He could never be certain when they would be rescued and adopted, so he focused on giving them all a sort of home away from home while they were there. Whenever people asked how he got funding for all this luxury, he would simply smile and say, “I make do.”
Even he had to admit that he spoiled Misty more than the others. He’d placed a sofa and a thick lush carpet in her pen, and then he’d painted the cinderblock walls a pale shade of pink. The other workers at the SPCA joked around when he hung a small crystal chandelier over her doggie bed. He didn’t care. Misty was different from other dogs he’d ever known in the past. To glance at her from a distance she resembled any other medium sized pit bull, with a stocky muscular frame and a shiny light gray coat. However, at a closer glance she wasn’t like other pit bulls at all. She’d been born with 3 legs, but she moved around as if she had 4. She had a severe indentation at the top of her head, and her snout was so misshapen it veered sideways which made her look perpetually lopsided. And if all that wasn’t enough, her eyes weren’t even. The left eye was significantly higher than the right. Her ears didn’t match either. The left ear was about two inches longer than the right. But there was something different about Misty on a completely spiritual level Keith couldn’t quite explain. Her crooked light green eyes melted his heart whenever he glanced into them. Her uneven ears made him smile. He could never be totally sure if he felt sorry for her because no one wanted to adopt her, or if he was proud of her for always remaining calm and even in spite of her circumstances.
She was smart, too. Smarter than a German shepherd or a Poodle, and they were the two smartest breeds he’d ever come across. When he walked up to her pen that morning, smelling fresh and clean from the soap he’d used in the bathroom, she took one look at him and walked in the opposite direction.
“Good morning, Misty,” he said, with a soft even voice. He held the bag that had the surprise up higher and shook it a few times. “I’ve got something you’re going to love in here.” He suspected she understood every word he said.
Misty sent him a backward glance and rested on her bed, as if she didn’t care in the least.
She never growled or snarled at Keith. Even though everyone warned Keith she couldn’t be totally trusted, he opened the gate of her pen and stepped inside. He knew better than anyone that she could be trusted. He showed no fear and he wasn’t worried she’d attack him. Although she looked frightening, she didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She’d been there for a long time and they’d reached a point where he knew it was safe to enter her pen. The only thing she showed him…and everyone else…was total indifference.
While Misty remained on her bed, he walked over to a small sink inside her kennel and said, “I’ve got something you’re going to love.”
He pulled a small pint size container out of the bag and reached down for Misty’s bowl. He opened the container and shook a powdery substance into her bowl, and then he added water and reached for a spoon on a shelf above the sink. As he stirred the powder into the water, he glanced back at Misty and said, “I ordered this special doggie pudding just for you. It’s supposed to taste just like bacon and all dogs love it.”
Misty looked up and watched every move he made. He knew she would never get up and walk over to him, not even if she was curious about what was in her bowl. So after he mixed it up and it reached the consistency of chocolate pudding, he set her bowl down on the floor and exited the pen to see what she would do.
Misty just yawned and looked the other way.
“Aren’t you even going to check it out,” he said. He talked to all the dogs there, so this was nothing new for him. He knew they understood. He could see it in their eyes.
She still wouldn’t look at him.

He didn’t want to force her. His goal was to gain her trust, and the only way to do that would be to leave her alone. If she liked this special treat he’d left for her, she was smart enough to remember. Misty never forgot anything, which was why he never scolded her. So he put his hands in his pockets and said, “I’ll stop back later, Misty. You can check out the pudding alone.”
