NYC’s LGBT Center #Walkaway Event Controversy; Straightwashing Elton John Biopic, ‘Rocketman’; Pope Francis and the Pro-LGBT Statement; Kendle’s Fire by Ryan Field

NYC’s LGBT Center #Walkaway Event Controversy

This is something totally foreign to me. I had no idea anything like this was happening.

New York City’s LGBTQ center has come under fire for hosting an event urging the community to #WalkAway from the Democratic Party.

However, there’s an update that states the #Walkaway event was canceled.

It’s a very long, political article that’s an interesting read, especially if you didn’t know anything like this was going on.

Here’s the link.

Straightwashing Elton John Biopic, ‘Rocketman’

I’m only reporting the facts with this one. According to this article, studio executives want to censor a scene from Rocketman to keep it from getting an R-rating. The film already stars a straight actor playing Elton John in gayface, Taron Egerton.

The studio fears that an R rating would render severe damage to the film’s box office prospects, whereas a PG-13 rating would help repeat the recent success of Bohemian Rhapsody, which made more than $215 million in the US alone.

Here’s the link for more. I didn’t bother seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, and I don’t plan on seeing Rocketman. But I’m sure we’ll hear more about this.

Pope Francis and the Pro-LGBT Statement

This is the first time I’m hearing about the Pope’s pro-LGBT statement. But from what I gather most people don’t know much about it.

The Vatican is preparing to oppose homophobia in a way the Catholic Church has never done before.

I just hope the statement is something that encourages people and gives them hope and guidance. I think that’s what most people are looking for, in a general sense.

A Novel Examining Masculinity

Amazon Reader Review:

“This is GREAT story!! It’s wonderful in its exploration of sexuality and masculinity. The story is well done and beautifully done. The story flows beautifully and the characters are wonderfully written.”

Kendle's Fire by [Field, Ryan]

Even though Kendle is an openly gay ex-Marine, he’s been questioning his masculinity all of his life. He’s always been what people expect a man to be, in spite of the fact that he’s never been completely comfortable living up to these expectations.

He also has a few secrets. The kind of secrets a man can only talk about with the most intimate people in his life. One of those people is his best friend and part time lover, Dale. And their relationship is not without a few unusual quirks and ironies either, especially when it comes to the way Kendle explains his relationship with Dale to his own parents.

After a string of bad career decisions and awkward mistakes, it’s not until Kendle meets a young guy named Walter that his life begins to come together. It’s a journey filled with as much joy as heartbreak, with a few bittersweet twists in between. As Kendle opens himself up to new possibilities, he finds himself in the midst of life altering changes that leave him devastated. And there’s a point where he’s not sure he can get through any of it.
