We’ve Always Been Offended, You Just Didn’t Know
I see people complaining about how other people get too offended lately, and it never ceases to amaze me how lightly they take it. But I also understand it. How could they know? If you’re coming from a place of privilege you can’t know how it feels to be the punch line of a bad, offensive joke.
I’m not going to make this long, because it’s really not that difficult. We’ve always been offended. This isn’t new. The truth is that many of us grew so used to being offended that it turned into a sort of resigned indifference.
In other words, when gay people would watch a popular TV show in the 90s and the heteronormative characters would make a gay joke, we would simply wave it off and ignore it. We knew it was offensive. We also knew we couldn’t do anything to change it.
However, things did change. One of the great things about the Internet is that so many people have voices now, and they can be heard. We didn’t have voices in the past and no one heard us, which rendered us totally helpless with regard to what offended us, or left us indifferent.
So, people who think we get offended too much now, it’s nothing new. You’re just going to have to deal with that. If you don’t like it, that’s too bad. We had to deal with being offended and not speaking up about it for years. For many it was a lifetime. And, just so it’s clear, and so you know, we’re going to let you know what offends us now.
Mumbai’s Historic Pride Event
Here’s some positive, wonderful news on the global front.
Mumbai just celebrated its first pride event, which is significant because it’s also the first pride since India decriminalized ‘homosexuality.’
“This is the first time I have participated in Mumbai Pride Parade,” Mr. Gay India 2019 Suresh Ramdas told The Times of India. “It’s crazy, fun, and colorful. I am especially excited because after the Section 377 went down, the atmosphere is really energetic.”

Gay Polish Politician and New Progressive Party
I’ve posted about Robert Biedron before. He’s the openly gay politician in Poland who’s been making headlines since 2014.
Biedron just announced there will be a new progressive party in Poland just in time for the elections this year. It’s going to be called Wiosna, which means spring.
‘There is no room for hate, we have reached the limit,’ he told the audience gathered in Warsaw. ‘We need a spring that will renew this gloomy landscape.’
