Don't Pay Attention to 2019 Publishing Predictions; Did Grover Drop the F Bomb On Sesame Street; Bird Box Inspires Gay Memes

Don’t Pay Attention to 2019 Publishing Predictions

I came across one of those ambitious author/bloggers this weekend who posted a lot of drivel about publishing predictions for 2019. It’s always drivel.

No one can predict what’s going to happen in publishing in 2019 or any other year.

No one predicted Fifty Shades of Grey and look what happened there. So don’t pay much attention to these posts.

Don’t waste your time, especially if you’re a new author and just starting out.

They’re never correct and the disingenuous people who write those things are either full of crap or they’re looking for online attention.

Your best bet is to work hard, perfect your craft, and continue to write as much as you possibly can. Write as often as you can and persevere. You can only get better, and that’s fact you can control, it’s not a lame prediction.

Did Grover Drop the F Bomb On Sesame Street

Here’s another one of those silly, and yet interesting, Internet stories.

Does Grover think it’s a f*ckin’ excellent idea, or just an excellent one? That’s the question on everyone’s mind after video of the muppet began circulating online over the weekend.

Here’s the link. You can check it out for yourselves.

Bird Box Inspires Gay Memes

I watched Bird Box on Netflix and I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I found flaws in the plot that didn’t make sense. But overall, it was entertaining and it moved quickly. And when it comes to things like this I’m not that picky.

So this doesn’t surprise me.

The movie debuted on Netflix on December 21 and has quickly become something of a holiday streaming phenomenon. It’s also inspired some pretty amazing memes.

Here’s more.

Ab Fab's June Whitfield Dies; Canada's New Coin Celebrates When Gay Sex Was Legalized; Facebook Apologizes to Franklin Graham for Banning Anti-LGBT Post; Top Gay Instagram Pics 2018;

Ab Fab’s June Whitfield Dies

This was sad to read.
One of the main stars of the British sit-com, Absolutely Fabulous, passed on suddenly at the age of 93. Dame June Whitfield was well known by everyone, and her career spanned several decades. I loved her.

Here’s more. It’s a nice tribute to her, with a lot more back story, and some photos.

Canada’s New Coin Celebrates When Gay Sex Was Legalized
In order to mark the 50th anniversary of  gay sex being decriminalized, Canada has designed a one dollar coin.
So far, I don’t think anyone’s seen the design in public, but there are rumors about how it’s going to look, and it has been approved by Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau’s father, Pierre Trudeau, was very involved in the quest to decriminalize consensual same sex activity.
But more important, Justin Trudeau, so far, is the only person in a place of high political power to actually apologize to gay people for the things that were done to them in the past. He should get a coin, too.
Facebook Apologizes to Franklin Graham for Banning Anti-LGBT Post
I’ve seen this one trending in several places.
Graham’s original post supported North Carolina’s ‘bathroom bill’ against trans people being able to use appropriate toilet facilities. While Facebook took down the post at the time, it has now been reinstated.
Here’s a link. It goes into more detail, but frankly, it’s typical Facebook. This sort of thing has been going on for years with Facebook.

Man's Penis Gets Stuck In Ball Bearing; The Penis Facial; First Openly Gay Man To Adopt In Canada Writes Memoir

Man’s Penis Gets Stuck In Ball Bearing

Here’s an interesting story about how firefighters came to the rescue.

A man from the Polish town of Świnoujście went to the hospital with an extraordinary problem: he had his penis stuck inside a car’s ball bearing, using it as an “unconventional sex toy”, Ladbible reported.

Here’s the link.

The Penis Facial

Just when you think you’ve heard it all from Hollywood, you read something like this. In their desperate, futile attempt to remain forever young, the older ones are doing this now.

Enter the “penis facial,” a skin rejuvenation technique that uses the stem cells gathered from the foreskins of Korean babies. It’s believed the stem cells help boost collagen production, which in turn helps facial imperfections such as wrinkles and fine lines disappear.

Here’s more. They list the names of the older people who have had the procedure, and that there’s a 2 year waiting list. It costs $650.

First Openly Gay Man To Adopt In Canada Writes Memoir

Here’s another important part of gay culture, and gay history.

David McKinstry has released a memoir about his journey to become a father twenty years after he became the first openly gay Canadian man to adopt children.

Here’s the rest. He began the journey in 1979. Fascinating story.

How Tabloids Treated Gay Men 30 Years Ago; 5 Actors Who Came Out In 2018; Beaten for Gay Sex In a Car In Malaysia

How Tabloids Treated Gay Men 30 Years Ago

The link shows degrading, discriminatory headlines from tabloids 30 years ago, proving that we’ve not only earned rights like legal same sex marriage, but we’ve earned the right to have our wedding cakes baked anywhere, without discrimination. And, without commentary from people who have no idea what it was like.

The outbreak of AIDS gave the tabloid media an incentive to further demonise gay and bisexual men in Britain.

Although homosexuality was partially decriminalised in 1967, many LGBT+ people in the UK were still treated like second-class citizens.
5 Actors Who Came Out In 2018
This one is a link to a video, no excerpts. I covered most of them here on the blog at the time they came out.
You can watch the video, here.  It’s totally SFW.
Beaten for Gay Sex In a Car In Malaysia
On the global front, this sort of thing continues to happen. Two men were caught having sex in a car and were attacked by a mob.
In the video, which has been viewed on Facebook more than 88,000 times, a mob surrounds a car as the two men inside scramble to get dressed. The suspects then “proceed to assault the victims physically” and call the men “embarrassments,” according to Malay Mail.
Here’s a link to this one. If two straight people are caught having sex in a car people usually wind up cheering them on, or they laugh it off.

Adam Lambert Sings 'Believe'; The Zakar Twins' Sexual Escapades; Dunkirk Who Transitioned At 70 Dies At 99

Adam Lambert Sings ‘Believe’

I normally don’t click links to things like this because they always sound like pushy PR pieces, however, this was different.

Adam Lambert left the whole room in tears with his emotional cover of Cher’s “Believe” performed at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors, which aired last night on CBS.

You can check this out, here. There’s a video and it’s excellent.

The Zakar Twins’ Sexual Escapades

This is one of those articles that covers multiple stories, so you have to scroll down to read about the Zakar twins. However, the other articles are interesting, too.

We’re currently in the works of turning our memoir, Pray The Gay Away, into an off-Broadway show come 2019. Our resolution is to sell out every venue. We want people to get on their knees and and pray with us, obviously.

Here’s more. I like people who do projects like this on their own. I would love to see this off-Broadway.

Dunkirk Who Transitioned At 70 Dies At 99

I think I’ve posted about Dunkirk before, but I’m not totally sure. She transitioned late in life, at the age of 70 years old.

She recently passed, at the age of 99 years old.

One of the oldest trans women in the UK had died, aged 99. Louise Jennings was a former British soldier who, aged 26, saw service on the beaches at Dunkirk during the Second World War.

She joined the army aged 20 in 1939 and served with the Durham Light Infantry 10th Battalion.

Ireland's Gay Leader Likes Donald Trump; 80 Year Old Priest Back With Young Boyfriend; Breakthrough In HIV Research

Ireland’s Gay Leader Likes Donald Trump

On the global front, Leo Varadkar is an openly gay leader in Ireland who’s gained a good deal of respect over the past few years.

The Irish prime minister, or Taoiseach, said US President, Donald Trump, is more ‘personable’ than he thought he would be. But he wants to challenge Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, over his discrimination of LGBTI people.

He also has very nice, positive things to say about Hillary Clinton. His comment about how public opinion is swayed by the media is interesting, too.

Here’s the link.

80 Year Old Priest Back With Young Boyfriend

I’ve been following this saga since I first saw it. I find it fascinating, in an amusing way.

Back in 2017, the world (or at least the subset of the world that values important matters like these) met Philip Clements, the then-78-year-old former priest who popped the question to his 24-year-old boyfriend, Florin Marin.

Here’s more. The drama continues.

I linked to a couple of articles about these two here at this link.

Breakthrough In HIV Research

Here’s some very encouraging news. And you probably will not read about this, or hear about it, from any mainstream news sources.

French scientists appear to have made not so much a small step but a giant leap in HIV research. In a press release, Paris’s Institut Pasteur announces that researchers have destroyed “reservoir” cells, i.e. infected immune cells. Their findings were published in the Cell Metabolism journal on December 20.

You can read it all, here.
