Let’s ALL Support LGBT TV Show East Siders

The other night I finished binge watching the 3rd season of East Siders on Netflix and I tweeted about how much I loved it and how I wish there had been more than 6 episodes. And to my surprise, which sometimes happens on Twitter, the creator of East Siders, Kit Williamson, replied to my tweet letting me know that he wants to do more episodes, but funding is always an issue.

First, when I say I love this show I’m not just blowing smoke up your butts. I really do, and I think that’s because it’s so different from other LGBT TV shows I’ve seen. East Siders has love, it’s sexy, it has emotion, it’s current, the characters are likable, and most of all it’s authentic LGBT content. And during a time when so much LGBT content is coming from straight people in Hollywood, I find that as valuable as I do refreshing.

I started watching season 1 of East Siders when it first showed up on Netflix, and with each season that’s followed I’ve enjoyed every episode. After posting that Tony and I took two cross country road trips last year, from coast to coast, I especially loved season 3 of East Siders because two main characters also do a cross country road trip. Now I can’t wait to get back in the car this spring for another cross country road trip and head back to Palm Springs.

I also love the way they set the first episode of East Siders in Palm Springs, CA. A lot of people out there who know nothing about gay culture, but think they do, don’t even realize that Palm Springs, CA is filled with gay history and gay culture. That’s why Tony and I bought a condo out there. So we can divide our time between New Hope, PA, and Palm Springs, CA. There’s no place else like it in the world.

The sex scenes in East Siders are well done, not over the top, and they mention things like PrEP. I think the characters represent a lot of what’s happening out there today with real life gay people. It’s not Modern Family or Will and Grace. This show is the real deal, and I think you’ll like everything about it. I think women who love to love gay romance novels will love East Siders, too. There is modern, new adult gay romance and so far I’ve seen happy endings.

You can read more about it here on IMDb.  And there are a few YouTube videos out. But most of all, give East Siders a shot, support it because we need authentic gay content like this, and help support authentic gay artists who are doing their best. I know what that’s like as an indie gay author to struggle. It’s not easy when you’re up against a system that’s geared for straight white people. But sometimes a show like East Siders comes along and you just want to see it work out.

This is from IMDb

What happens after the world ends? Written and directed by award winning playwright Kit Williamson, “EastSiders” explores the aftermath of infidelity on a gay couple in Silverlake. When Cal (Kit Williamson) finds out Thom (Van Hansis) has been cheating on him with Jeremy (Matthew McKelligon), their relationship is turned upside down. Will the lies tear them apart or are they just stubborn enough to stay together forever? Drunken outbursts and double standards abound in this dark comedy about the sad and funny messes we make out of our lives. Cal’s best friend Kathy (Constance Wu) is always there for him with a bottle of whiskey in her purse, but she has her own problems with her nice guy boyfriend Ian (John Halbach), even if they’re all in her head. Stephen Guarino guest stars as a party promoter throwing one last bash before the apocalypse.

Five Women Accuse James Franco of Inappropriate Sexual Behavior
Here’s more about the ongoing James Franco story.
Five women have come forward accusing James Franco of sexually inappropriate behavior in an explosive new piece published by the Los Angeles Times.
This latest report comes just days after Franco was accused of being a hypocrite on social media for wearing a Time’s Up pin at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards:
Here’s the rest. I have no comment about Franco. But prepare yourself for more than a few vituperative, misogynist comments at the end of the article.
Cher Headlines Mardi Gras Party In Sydney
This is fairly big news. I don’t think Cher has done anything quite this grand in a long time. But as always, she’s doing it with style.
The rumor mills that gay icon Cher would headline Sydney’s Mardi Gras Party were true. The pop diva has just been confirmed as the main act at the world famous party in an exclusive Australian performance.
There’s more, here. I would imagine there are a lot of thrilled people in Sydney right now. I actually read a novel, a good novel, written by a female author about Mardi Gras in Sydney. I lost touch with her, but the Mardi Gras descriptions were excellent. I’ll update if I can remember the title of the novel.

Update. Here’s a link to the post about the Mardi Gras book I was talking about.
