Rose McGowan On Hollywood Hypocrisy

All industries have their faults and nothing is perfect. But you have to search far and wide to find the kind of hypocrisy you’ll find in Hollywood. One minute it’s all smiles and that praying hand gesture, and then next they’re stabbing someone in the back or sexually assaulting someone. Or pretending it doesn’t happen in Hollywood. And no one ever hears the truth…until now.

Rose McGowan’s name has been a staple in the news cycle since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke in October, but she says she actually trademarked what has become her #MeToo army, the Rose Army, three years ago.

During a two-part interview on ABC’s Good Morning America that aired Tuesday, the actress told host Robin Roberts of her intention: “I wanted to see if I could make people — societally, including myself — 10 percent more awesome. The broader message is about thought and about looking at things. I realized, there are no lobbyists for critical thinking. There are no lobbyists for bravery.”
The Benham Brothers Homophobic Op-Ed
The Benham brothers are at it again, and this time it’s with an op-ed piece recently published.
The piece is titled, Mind-Blowing Plot To Sexually Confuse America’s Little Ones, where the brothers go after the school board about confusing little kids sexually. They got upset when the school board decided to focus on diversity in a multicultural society.
We’ve said it for years, and we’ll say it again now: The radical LGBTQ-plus agenda has gone from acceptance, to appreciation, to celebration and now to forced participation. Our kids all will be forced to participate in this revolution one way or another – regardless of what parents feel about it. To say this is indoctrination is putting it lightly. It’s deliberately sowing seeds of sexual confusion into the fertile minds of future generations, and it will be difficult to uproot.
I don’t understand why anyone would want to uproot equality or diversity, but you can read the rest, here. Maybe they need to evolve more.
U of Wisconsin: Hotbed of Sex Misconduct
Evidently, the University of Wisconsin is dealing with quite a few sex scandals. Here’s one of them…
A male student from University of Wisconsin-Green Bay claims an instructor repeatedly contacted on Grindr asking for a hookup. Not only that, but the  instructor allegedly touched the student during class.
Sexual relations between professors and students are against the university’s policy. Not only that, but they can raise legal issues under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
There’s more here. I don’t know how to comment on this one, but there are a few interesting comments with this link.

Is Joe Kennedy III Dating A Trans Soldier? Police Break Up LGBTI Protest In Tunisia; Cher In Mama Mia Sequel; Diane Keaton Defends Woody Allen

Is Joe Kennedy III Dating A Trans Soldier?

This is fantastic. I hope it’s true. I don’t think they are actually dating in a romantic sense, but this article says that Joe Kennedy III is taking a trans soldier along as his date to the State of the Union event. Clearly, it’s a political statement, and one that needs to be made.

On Tuesday (30 January), Donald Trump delivers his first State of the Union as President of the United States.
Democratic Representative Joe Kennedy III from Massachusetts is bringing a trans soldier to the event. Army Staff Sgt. Patricia King is attending Trump’s speech.
Police Break Up LGBTI Protest In Tunisia
Here’s more inequality from another part of the world.
Police officers in their civilian clothes broke up a demonstration by Tunisian LGBTI activists on Saturday, 27 January.
They were protesting to end the criminalization of sexual freedom.
Cher In Mama Mia Sequel
This Mama Mia sequel has been trending all weekend, and it’s still going strong. I never actually saw the first movie, so it’s all news to me.
But this time Cher is in it…
Cher nails the ABBA hit “Fernando,” and it is rumored she will sing and least one other song on the soundtrack.
You can read more, here, and check out the trailer.

Diane Keaton Defends Woody Allen
I find this interesting, especially in a year when Hollywood is so proud of the fact that one of its most celebrated films, Call Me By Your Name, has a story line where a 17 year old barely legal boy has a sexual relationship with an older guy…and it’s being promoted as a gay romance.
I’m sure you all know the Woody Allen allegations by now.
Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him. It might be of interest to take a look at the ’60 Minute’ interview from 1992 and see what you think,” she tweeted, linking to the interview with Steve Kroft in which Allen discussed the allegations waged against him by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. Farrow has accused Allen of sexually assaulting her in 1992 when she was seven years old, though he has never been charged. Keaton has starred in a number of Allen’s films, including “Annie Hall,” “Interiors,” and “Manhattan.”

He’s Going Gay Because No Sex From Wife; Fundraiser: A Liver To Live; Tackling Gay Anti-Asian Racism

He’s Going Gay Because No Sex From Wife

When you read things like this, I hope you all know that it’s not supposed to be taken seriously. At least I hope it’s not.

It’s actually one of those advice letter things, where this straight guy who’s been married for a long time talks about how he’s not getting sex from his wife so he’s looking for it from older gay men.

He continues: “Lately I’ve taken to fantasizing about sex with anyone (male/ female/group) and have registered on a few sites that facilitate gay/bi/group profiles.”
“I’ve found that I have a growing fascination with older males. I feel myself drawn more to wanting to engage in sexual activity of this nature.”
Fundraiser: A Liver To Live
This is a great deal more serious than the link above. In fact, this is about as serious as it gets. A friend I’ve been following on social media for a long time asked me to share this. I think it’s a good cause, so I’m sharing.
Just recently, Dawn went to the doctor for a nagging cough and slightly swollen feet and left the appointment in shock and with prescriptions for heavy antibiotics. “We don’t know the cause,” they said, “but your liver is shutting down.”  Once admitted to the hospital and after a myriad of test and a liver biopsy, our fears were confirmed. Dawn is now being transferred to the Mayo Clinic and will be placed on the list for a liver transplant. The cause – viral, bacterial, environmental or autoimmune – we still don’t know.  What we do know, is that she needs a new liver. Quite frankly, she needs a liver to live.
You can read the rest here, and you can donate, too.
Tackling Gay Anti-Asian Racism
This has been an ongoing issue in the gay community for a while now, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Sometimes it causes an explosion on comment threads.
There’s a web series I haven’t seen yet titled, I’m Fine, where the story line revolves around gay men living in Los Angeles. This week they got into the subject of anti-Asian racism. I’ve seen this kind of racism myself many times.
“Brandon and I got to talking about where Jeff’s story was heading,” Doud explains. “I told him I really wanted to address Jeff’s/my race.”
“I’m half Chinese and half Caucasian, and not only are Asian-Americans wildly underrepresented in film and TV but I also believe Asian-American men are desexualized in media.”
Here’s more. LGBTQ people, in general, are underrepresented in film, TV, AND books. And when the are mentioned they are usually misrepresented and appropriated. It’s an interesting article, and looks like an interesting TV show.

Footballer Comes Out On Camera, Pay Attention Hollywood; A Course On Toxic Masculinity Gets Backlash; Gay Porn Star Trump Supporters FraternityX

Footballer Comes Out On Camera, Pay Attention Hollywood

I almost posted something else about THAT movie that’s constantly being referred to as a gay romance, but I won’t. I’m so sick of reading about that BS I don’t even want to see the title of THAT film again. So here’s something positive, and current, about one decent gay man who is trying to make a huge difference. I think we need to see more of this sort of thing, and a lot less of that antiquated Hollywood nonsense.

Richie Anderson is a BBC reporter and grassroots football player from the UK. He’s been working on a story about homophobia in his sport.
Last weekend, Anderson decided to come out to his teammates as part of his project. The guys knew he was working on a program about grassroots football. But they had no idea it was going to have a gay angle.

Here’s more. Now that’s what I’d like to see in a movie, not a tired old cliche where a barely legal 17 year old boy who has sex with an older predator, Hollywood.

A Course On Toxic Masculinity Gets Backlash

When I wrote Kendle’s Fire I purposely set out to question masculinity and the way society expects men to act, react, and behave. It’s fiction and I wanted to keep it simple, because there are set standards for men. If you just look at the surface, men have been stifled in so many ways by the restrictions that society has placed on them it’s kind of interesting to see people defend it. Two women could dance together and no one would care. But if two straight men dance together it’s either odd or laughable…or somehow shameful and diminishing. So while men might have a good deal of privilege, they’ve also been paying a price for it for years. And in many cases it’s women who will be the first ones to dictate what men should or shouldn’t do.

In any event, I wrote about this topic in my novel, Kendle’s Fire, and I think it’s resonated with a few people. But this article explores something similar with regard to something called toxic masculinity. And I’m really not too far left or far right on this topic. But I do think that men have had restrictions placed upon them by society that haven’t always been fair…or easy…including gay men.

Branfman teaches gender studies at the Ohio State University. This semester, he is teaching a class titled ‘Be a Man! Masculinities, Race and Nation.’ The course explores different types of masculinity and how certain varieties of it (known as toxic masculinity) can be harmful to men, women, and those in between.

There’s more here. It sounds like an interesting course. The article talks about the class itself, with respect to gender and masculinity, and also talks about the backlash it’s been getting from ultra conservatives. And that’s kind of interesting in itself because it’s the ultra conservative men who’ve been held back the most by these masculinity rules of society. And they don’t even seem to know it.

Here’s a very short excerpt from Kendle’s Fire. I think it’s a topic we’re going to be hearing a lot more about.

Then he gazed into the mirror and turned sideways. One of the things he did want to do was break down the stereotypes that had always been forced upon him as a man. He wanted to show them all that men could be sexy in different ways, too, without trying too hard to promote the cliché of masculinity men had always known.

Gay Porn Star Trump Supporters FraternityX

As most articles tend to be in LGBT publications, this article is more of an opinion piece…or commentary…on how they feel about gay people in the porn industry who support Donald Trump. It’s NSFW, and they make some very strong statements.

This cringeworthy scene from FraternityX, a gay porn site, features men in Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats yelling ‘Trump and Pump’ while gangbanging a bisexual ‘resistor.’

Here’s the rest. Now, when you take into consideration that this is just porn, I’m not sure it’s worthy of any further examination. Seriously. It’s porn. I don’t think it was intended to be taken seriously. But it is amusing and the guys are hot.

James Franco Erased From Vanity Fair Cover; A Silly Penis Game; TV’s First Series About A Gay Deaf Man

James Franco Erased From Vanity Fair Cover

It seems as though James Franco is still getting slammed over the sexual misconduct allegations.

Franco participated in the magazine’s interview and portrait session by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, but he was digitally erased after that damning Los Angeles Times’ report detailing five women’s allegations of sexually inappropriate or exploitative behavior.

You can check this out, here. I think the key word here is allegation, because nothing’s been proven yet…as far as I know. Check out the comments with this one.

It’s interesting to note that while James Franco is getting slammed over allegations, many people are celebrating a movie titled Call Me By Your Name with a barely legal 17 year old boy who is having sex with an older man. But maybe I’m the only one who sees the irony in that.

A Silly Penis Game

This is unusual. It’s about penises fighting each other and some people are raving about it.

But one game has flipped that script in a way that no other game has ever dared to. The ridiculous comedy game Genital Jousting by Freelives makes the cockfighting literal, and in the process, creates one of the most cathartic, challenging, provocative, and liberating play experiences in recent memory.

Here’s the rest.

TV’s First Series About A Gay Deaf Man

It looks as if this could be good. I hope so anyway. If nothing else, it sounds authentic. And compared to what we usually see on TV about gay people, that’s a novelty in itself.

Josh Feldman is a queer actor, writer, and producer from Los Angeles. He also happens to be deaf. His new series This Close follows two deaf friends as they navigate through their late 20s and early 30s.

There’s a lot more here. It will be on the Sundance channel in February. I usually enjoy what they do over there. I also dated someone who was deaf once, too. A very nice guy.

FREE Gay Book Excerpt; FBI Investigates Joel Taylor’s Death; Tonya Harding: NOT A Gay Icon; Zimbabwe President Won’t Legalize Gay Sex; The Gay For Pay Pornster Charged With Raping His Daughter

FREE Gay Book Excerpt

I haven’t done this on a Friday in a while. But I’ve posted a free book excerpt from my upcoming untitled novel about two young gay men who fall in love, but one is Amish and the other English. Those of you familiar with Amish culture know that Amish people refer to everyone else in mainstream society as “English.”

I’ll post more about this in the future. But for now I wanted to see how it looks in print myself, and I wanted to share. I see an awful lot of bad Amish romance out there, and from the information I gather from a secret gay Amish friend of mine, people in the Amish community are not thrilled with Amish romances either. I wanted to do something different. And to show what it might be like for a gay Amish man in the closet.

FBI Investigates Joel Taylor’s Death

I’ve been following this all day. Joel Taylor was the co-host of a weather related TV show on the Discovery channel. He was only 38 years old, and he was recently found dead on a gay cruise. According to reports, they’re suggesting he may have died from an overdose of the drug GHB. Other witnesses allege they saw Taylor also taking drugs like ecstasy and cocaine.

And now the FBI is launching an investigation.

According to TMZ, Taylor’s death has now piqued the curiosity of the FBI, who are launching an investigation. The website reports “huge quantities” of “party drugs” were on the ship, including Ecstasy, cocaine, and GHB.
Sources claim some people were arrested for drug possession before the ship set sail.
Tonya Harding: NOT A Gay Icon
I’m going to recuse myself on this one. I’m still not even sure WTF a gay icon really is, and I know nothing about Tonya Harding.
Gay men love rooting for the underdog. We admire stories of people who work hard and succeed against all the odds. Which is partially why the movie I, Tonya has resonated with so many people in the LGBTQ community:
And, hey–it’s a solid movie. But guess what, folks? Tonya Harding is not a gay icon! She never has been! And she never will be!
Well I guess she’s not HIS gay icon, exclamation point. Here’s the rest.  Check out the comments, too.
Zimbabwe President Won’t Legalize Gay Sex
Here’s another story about another one of these horrible homophobic countries that no one ever talks about much. The reason I post these things is because I truly, in my heart, ache for the LGBTQ people who live in places like this.
The new President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has dashed the hopes of local LGBTI advocates. He has stated that he has little intention of making life easier for LGBTI people in the country.
Here’s the rest. To put this into perspective, gay sex there has been illegal since 1891.
The Gay For Pay Pornster Charged With Raping His Daughter
This is about as bad as bad gets.
Sebastian Young, most famous for his Lucas Entertainment, stands accused of raping his five-year-old daughter.
The felony charges are: felony possession of sexual performance by a child – enhanced, felony/capital sexual battery on a person less than 12 years old.
Here’s more. According to this, they might seek the death penalty.
FREE Gay Excerpt
Please keep in mind this is only a rough, unedited draft and there might be changes.
Of course the police contacted Noah’s dad and he came down to the police station to get him, which is what led up to the conversation they were having that morning in Edwin Gledhill’s library. Edwin was still pacing the library floor when he asked, “What I’d like to know is why on earth you weren’t more discreet? Did you have to be so blatant about what you did last night?”
Noah looked down at the floor and shrugged. “You above all people should know the answer to thatquestion.”
“Don’t be impertinent,” Noah’s mom said. “Your father would never do anything like that.”
“Of course not,” his dad said. “One of the things I’ve always tried to teach you is the importance of discretion, Noah. You come from a prominent New York family. Why would you get yourself into a situation like that, in public, with six strange men?”
Noah shrugged again. “I’m a good sport?” He didn’t know how to answer that question without making a joke. For him it wasn’t a matter of how he’d gotten himself into that situation. It was more a matter of how could he have avoided that situation with all those hot sweaty men.
Nancy rolled her eyes. “That’s not funny.”
“Well now you’ll have to pay for your mistake,” Edwin said. “And I can assure you that I never did anything like that in my life.”
Noah wasn’t so sure, though. It was no secret to anyone who knew them well that Noah’s mom and dad didn’t have the most conventional marriage. His dad was openly gay and his mom had a part time lover of her own. They remained a couple for their own personal reasons, which was partly because they genuinely loved each other. But to call their marriage traditional in any sense of the word would have been an exaggeration to say the least. Noah had seen a few of the guys his dad met on hook up apps. They were always big, hairy, strong and aggressive. Just the way Noah liked his men, too. He wasn’t judging his dad, but he didn’t like the way his dad seemed to be judging him.
“We want to teach you the importance of self-control and discretion, Noah,” Nancy said. “That’s why we’re sending you to Amish country for the summer. You don’t seem able to control yourself.”
“I promise I’ll work harder,” Noah said. “Please don’t send me there.”
“You said that the last time,” his dad said. “And then that woman who was married to the pizza delivery guy came looking for you with a baseball bat. I thought you’d learned your lesson that time, but I guess you didn’t. And now it’s gotten serious. If I didn’t know people in the right places you’d have a criminal record.”
“I wasn’t thinking last night,” Noah said. “I got carried away.”
            Nancy sighed. “Apparently.”
His dad said, “There’s no need to discuss it any further. I’ve arranged to have a car take you out to the Amish farm this afternoon and your cousins will be waiting for you. Now go upstairs and pack your things. There isn’t much time left.”
“If I go there, I’m not making cheese.”
His mom shook her head in exasperation. “No one expects you to make cheese, Noah. You’ll be working at the family farm market. Your cousin, Marcus, will be there to help you out. He’s about your age.”
“Working?” He didn’t like the sound of this. His Amish cousins weren’t the strict old order Amish. Although he was never quite certain what they were, he knew they were more liberal than some Amish people could be. However, their lives were completely opposite from the life he lived in New York.
“You’ll have to earn your keep there,” Edwin said. “And I’m warning you, Noah. This time I don’t want to hear about any trouble. You do as you’re told, behave like a gentleman, and most of all stay away from straight men and from other peoples’ husbands.”
“You make it sound as if I only go after married men.”
Nancy made a face. “Well, that has been your pattern, dear. You even started a small riot at that wedding we went to last month.”
“That doesn’t count,” Noah said. “Big deal. I only licked wedding cake frosting off the groom’s finger because he didn’t want to ruin his tuxedo. I didn’t know the bride was watching. And frankly, she didn’t have to throw wedding cake at me. That was rude, and she’s a very rude woman.”
“Well, none of that in Amish country,” his dad said. “Stay away from the married men.”
“I’m not wearing Amish clothes,” Noah said.
“You can wear jeans,” his mom said. “It wouldn’t be right to make you wear Amish clothes, because we don’t want your cousins to think we’re appropriating them. That would be just awful.”
He knew there was no way out of this, so he stood up and said, “I’ll go pack. But I’m warning you that I’m not sure how this is going to turn out.”
Edwin glared at him and said, “It’s going to turn out very well.”
Nancy tilted her head to the side and asked Edwin, “How do you know that, dear?”
            Noah was curious, too.
His dad smiled. “Because this is his last chance, Nancy. If he doesn’t straighten out this summer, I’m cutting him off. No money, no trust fund, no cars, no charge accounts. Nothing.”
“You can’t do that,” Noah said. “Grandfather left that trust to me.”
“But he left me in charge of it until you turn 30,” his dad said.
Without saying another word, Noah turned and left the room. He didn’t glance back because he knew they were serious this time. He also knew he couldn’t totally blame them. They’d given him more chances than he probably would have given himself under the same circumstances. No one knew more than he did that he had to learn the art of restraint, especially when it came to married straight men. His only choice now was to go out to Amish country and show them that he could change. And he vowed to himself right then and there on the way up to his room to pack, he would learn the meaning of self-control and he’d never cause his family an ounce of chagrin again.

75,000 US Teens Face Conversion Therapy; Gay Dating App Wants to Stop Dick Pics Shallow Preferences; Guy Benson Says He’s Not A Self-Hating Gay

75,000 US Teens Face Conversion Therapy

This number is staggering. And, this is also another reason why I feel so strongly about protecting gay kids, and why I don’t stop talking about movies like Call Me By Your Name where there is a barely legal 17 year old teen having sex with an older man. Kids in general, but especially gay kids, seem to be the most vulnerable these days in many different ways. And that bothers me.

This bothers me, too.

More than 75,000 teens aged 13 to 17 in the United States will face conversion therapy before adulthood. The information comes from a study by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law.
UCLA is a university located in Los Angeles, California. They provided the study to GSN.

You can check it out, here. It is a fascinating detailed article you should read. The numbers get even more intense, with respect to adults who’ve already had conversion therapy. They also get into laws preventing conversion therapy, which seems to be the only way to stop it. Because I highly doubt common sense is going to work.

Gay Dating App Wants to Stop Dick Pics Shallow Preferences

I’m not so sure how this is going to work. I really don’t know much about this topic because I’ve never used a hook up app. I’m married. Married people don’t do that (well, most). But it should be interesting to watch what happens.

Aside from unsolicited dick pics, apps like Grindr also promote issues of racism, ageism, fat shaming, and femme shaming among the gay community. To combat these issues, Chappy introduced a pledge for its users: basically, don’t be an asshole. If you don’t find someone attractive, simply swipe left.

From what I gather, a lot of guys are getting sick and tired of nothing but dick picks and negative shallow preferences. They’re looking for something that’s more real, and this particular hook up app seems to want to give it to them. Today I blocked a group of gay guys on Twitter for sharing a photo of barely legal teens posing naked. So I think there could be a market for something like Chappy.

Here’s the rest.

Guy Benson Says He’s Not A Self-Hating Gay

I’ve never been quite sure what that term meant…self-hating gay. Or, as I’ve also heard, self-loathing gay.

In any event, here’s why Benson is defending himself…

In the video, which was released earlier this week, 32-year-old Benson defends his identity as “a Christian, a patriotic American, and a free market shrink-the-government conservative who also happens to be gay.”
“When it comes to my political beliefs, my orientation is only one part of the story,” Benson says. “It’s not the totality of who I am.”

Here’s the rest. There’s a fascinating comment thread. Not joking. I learn more there than from the articles sometimes.
