Call Me By Your Name Is NOT A Gay Romance
The book and movie, Call Me By Your Name, may be the best thing that’s ever come out in the entire universe. Armie Hammer may play gayface better than anyone, ever. At least that’s how it’s being promoted. And I’m not disagreeing with any of that. I’m not disagreeing with the quality or the art. I actually do like homosexual content that comes from a heteronormative POV, especially when it’s realistic. So this isn’t a rant. I don’t really care one way or the other. There are a lot more important things going on in the world right now.
I just get a little tired sometimes of seeing and reading about homosexual content that’s coming from a heteronormative POV that has nothing at all to do with gay culture or gay romance.
In any event, I’ve posted about it before more than once and I’m tired of doing it. The powerful marketing campaign for this movie is so strong nothing I say is going to matter much anyway. They’ll roll right over me and whistle all the way to the bank. Hollywooders will probably give it an Oscar. But here’s an interesting review I found that I agree with in many ways. I doubt it’s going to get much attention, but I highly recommend reading it.
I bristle every time I hear the word “universal” used to describe a queer romance on screen. It’s not that non-queer people can’t relate to queer stories, or can’t understand their nuances. Instead, it’s about the desexualising of queer romance – turning the sex lives of LGBTQI+ individuals into something palatable for straight audiences.
Here’s the rest. It’s an excellent opinion piece.
It’s also interesting to note that there are no gay actors playing leads in Call Me By Your Name. I guess that’s because there are no gay actors in Hollywood? Such a shame.
Sam Smith Kissing Brandon Flynn
Now this was nice to see. Openly gay performer, Sam Smith, was recently spotted kissing 13 Reasons Why actor, Brandon Flynn. In spite of Hollywood’s idiocy, thank God the world’s changing and we can actually see things like this now.
TMZ dutifully reports the two artists were cavorting around Greenwich Village and acting very chummy indeed.
You can check out the photos here. They make an adorable couple.
Gay Couple Victims of Vegas Mass Shooting
This one isn’t so easy to read. I feel sorry for everyone who was involved with this. All they wanted to do was have a good time.
There’s more here. Eardley’s sister said he’s going to survive.
