Trump’s Ban On Transgenders In the Military, Costs, and How It Sets Us Back
When I was a kid I remember hearing a story told by someone who managed to dodge the draft. And this was years after he dodged the draft. He was still bragging about how he’d done it. From what I recall, he dressed up in drag and he claimed he was a transgender person, because at that time transgender people were not allowed in the military.
In fact, according to this article it wasn’t until 2015 when transgenders were allowed in the military.
The Pentagon announced Monday that it will allow transgender members of the military to serve openly starting next year, marking an end to a long-standing policy that barred them from the armed forces.
With that said, Donald Trump is about to set us all back years with his tweets about banning transgender people from the military, again. Just the sheer arrogance of giving someone something and then taking it back is sickening. And the irony alone is astounding. Men were pretending to be trans years ago to avoid the military…cowards…and now we have brave real trans people who want to serve their country.
President Trump messaged Wednesday that he has decided to bar transgender individuals from serving “in any capacity” in the U.S. armed forces, a policy that could affect thousands of Americans now in uniform and others hoping to serve.
In a decision he disclosed on Twitter, Trump said the military would not “allow or accept” transgender service members, reversing a policy begun by the Obama administration last year.
There are also a few misconceptions going around that some people evidently believe to be true. I’ve researched them all and so far everything I can find means that Trump has banned ALL transgender people from the military. And in doing this we’ve all plunged back more than two decades. This is worse than Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. And the arrogance I’ve seen from people who don’t understand the first thing about being a trans person is even more sickening.
Here’s one misconception about how much it costs to have trans people in the military. I’m sure you’ve all heard the argument by now that it costs too much to have trans people in the military, but this article challenges that opinion.
However, an analysis by the Rand Corporation last year found that the costs of allowing transgender people to serve in the military would have a “minimal impact” on the budget, amounting to $2.4 million to $8.4 million each year, or 0.04 percent to 0.13 percent of the military health care budget. That’s little more than a rounding error when compared to the total U.S. military budget of roughly $700 billion.
Trump’s Trans Military Ban and the Mexican Wall
I know I’ve always said I’m not political on this blog, however, I am political about LGBTQ+ issues. Frankly, I don’t care whether or not anyone agrees with me. My fight has always been concentrated on LGBTQ+ issues, and that’s not going to change any time soon. I posted about legalized marriage for years, and now I’m going to post about this ban.
I knew there had to be something political behind all this. There usually is. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was politically motivated as well.
A Politico report suggests House Republicans planned to pass a spending bill that included the cash necessary to build his proposed and much-ballyhooed wall, but an internal disagreement over trans troops put the future of that bill on shaky ground.
According to insiders, members of the House GOP were afraid they wouldn’t get enough votes because, as Politico reports, “defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.”
Charlie Sheen Accused of Passing HIV To Gay Lover
Keep in mind this is all alleged at this point, and it’s coming from a questionable source.
RadarOnline reports that the 51-year-old actor could be facing some serious jail time after being accused of passing HIV to a male partner during sex.
According to the celebrity gossip rag, the man, whose identity is being withheld, was able to trace his infection back to a tryst he had with Sheen. Now, he’s purportedly suing.
