The First "Agender" Baby; Muslims Urged To Boycott Pro-LGBT Starbucks; I’m Proud Of My Label and I Own It

The First “Agender” Baby

For those of you who get frustrated about these things, and I know you do, keep in mind that I’m only linking to them. They do not reflect my opinions.

A baby in Canada is believed to be the first in the world to be identified as agender on an official document.

Searyl Atli was born to Kori Doty, a non-binary trans person who doesn’t identify as male or female, eight months ago.

Kori wishes baby Searyl to discover their own gender.

Here’s the rest. Now, if you want to read opinions, there are a few comments.

Muslims Urged To Boycott Pro-LGBT Starbucks

Here’s what’s happening in other parts of the world, unfortunately.

Islamic hardliners in Indonesia and Malaysia want Muslims to boycott Starbucks because of its support of LGBTI issues.

The global coffeehouse chain has long promoted diversity. It was comments by its then-CEO Howard Schultz made in 2013 that annoyed the hardliners

On Sunday ultra-nationalist group Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia called on Muslims not to go to Starbucs.

You can check out more here. I’m guessing that “hardliners” means the most conservative? I always feel very sorry for gay Muslims when I read these things. Because there are gay Muslims. You just don’t hear about them very often.

Here’s more.

I’m Proud of my Label and I Own It

This morning I saw a tweet about how we shouldn’t care about labels and everyone should just love each other. Which is fine. I wish that’s how it worked.

But only if the world were this perfect place where labels don’t matter.

We all know that’s not how the world works.

I see it all the time, and it’s usually from people who come from places of white privilege. They say they hate “labels” without ever considering the fact that many of us are proud of our labels and that we’ve earned the right to be proud of them.

So don’t tell me I’m not allowed to own my label as a gay man, especially if you’re not a gay man. You don’t get the right to do that.
