Royal Family Gay Sex Blackmailer Found Dead; Scott Silverthrone’s Meth-for-sex Scandal; Average Age Gay Men Marry

Royal Family Gay Sex Blackmailer Found Dead

I didn’t even know this had happened.

After months of mystery, authorities in the U.K. have finally released the cause of death for the man who once tried blackmailing the Royal Family with gay sex rumors.

In 2008, Ian Strachan, whose real name was Paul Adalsteinsson but who went by the name Charles Goldstein, tried to extort £50,000 from England’s Royal Family after claiming he had a video of an unnamed junior royal performing a sex act on a male aide and taking cocaine at a party.

There’s more here. It gets even more peculiar.

Scott Silverthrone’s Meth-for-sex-Scandal

I don’t know anything about this one either. Never heard of Scott Silverthrone.

Then, in August 2016, all of that fell apart. Silverthorne made national headlines when he abruptly resigned from office and pled guilty to possession of crystal meth after being busted in a sting operation. The day after his arrest, officials from the Fairfax County Police Department held a live press conference where they alleged he had intended to exchange the drugs for group gay sex, a claim both he and his attorney vehemently deny.

There’ s a lot more here. Evidently, he wants everyone to know what really happened, because some in the media sensationalized/exaggerated the truth. No shock there.

Average Age Gay Men Marry

This is interesting for several reasons. One, I would have thought the average age was much younger. Two, the average cost of a wedding looks a bit steep. I know a lot of middle aged, established gay men who’ve been together for 25+ years, and none of them spent that kind of money on a wedding. In fact, most of them got married quietly and without much fanfare…including us. We got married in Vermont by Supreme Court Justice, Beth Robinson, and kept it really quiet.

In any event…

Results from the 2017 LGBTQ Wedding Study, conducted by The Knot and Q.Digital (the parent company of Queerty), revealed that the average marring age for LGBTQ men is 46 (compared to 36 for LGBTQ women).

According to this “study,” here’s what they spent on average…

  • Average Wedding Cost (excludes honeymoon): Men, $18,049; Women, $17,341
  • Average Engagement Ring Spend: Men, $2,226; Women, $3,185

You can read the rest here. I’m not the only one who is questioning this “average” wedding cost. And I know a lot of gay men with disposable incomes who would never spend that kind of money on a wedding at this point in their lives.

There’s really not much data out there about this, but according to this piece the average gay wedding costs around $9k,
