Melissa Rivers on Dad’s Suicide and "13 Reasons Why"; Generic Truvada Approved; Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman Are Possibles For Gay Conversion Drama

Melissa Rivers on Dad’s Suicide and 13 Reasons Why

I’ve posted about how well received the TV show 13 Reasons Why has been, and that’s not surprising because it’s well done all the way around and the story is captivating. The way they tell the story itself is captivating, however, psychology professionals and people who have had to deal with suicide personally are questioning whether or not it’s actually helping or possibly hurting. Some have been very vocal about this. I’m not qualified to draw any conclusions, however, if I had teenagers I wouldn’t let them watch it. I don’t think it portrays teenagers accurately and there are too many overlooked inconsistencies to make it believable.

With that said, Melissa Rivers whose dad committed suicide when she was only in college spoke about suicide and 13 Reasons Why recently.

How do you feel about “13 Reasons Why,” then?

I know this sounds terrible but I haven’t watched it. I just really don’t want to. Luckily my son has not had any interest in watching it, and I think because we’ve always had an open dialogue about how my father passed and suicide and that it’s not an option, there’s nothing you can’t get through as long as you talk about it.

You can read the rest of the article here. It gets into more detail about suicide in general, and dealing with it.

Generic Truvada Approved

This should makes things less expensive for people who are taking Truvada, at least I hope so. You never know when it comes to healthcare in the US.

“Yes, the first generic for Truvada has been approved and will now be available in the U.S. Usually, it takes several generics before full cost-savings potential is reached though. Hopefully, this will help to expand PrEP availability for many.”

You can check the rest out here. So far one person left a comment about what it costs him now, and you would be amazed. At least he’s lucky enough to have insurance. A lot of people don’t realize that there are still millions of Americans who opted to pay the fine instead of getting Obamacare. Because the fine is more affordable. And that’s just wrong.

Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman Are Possibles For Gay Conversion Drama

I still find it hard to believe that anyone would think gay conversion therapy works. But they are out there and they are still ruining lives.

Actor-director Joel Edgerton is busy putting plans into place for his next project, Boy Erased.

The drama is based on a memoir of a young gay man, Garrard Conley, who underwent so-called gay conversion therapy.

Deadline reports that Lucas Hedges, last seen in the Oscar-winning Manchester By The Sea, will take the lead role in the movie.

It also says Edgerton is courting fellow Australians Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman to take supporting roles.

There’s more here. I’ll probably be posting more about this one.
