A Christmas Carl Christmas Print Book Giveaway Weekend

Update: Someone asked me if the giveaway is open to non US citizens and I guess I forgot to make that clear.  So yes, this giveaway is open to everyone on this planet. I hate when other places limit contests and giveaways and I don’t want to do that.

This weekend I’m doing a Christmas holiday giveaway with an autographed, brand new copy of A Christmas Carl. This is the first time this book has been available in paperback.

All you have to do is comment on this blog post in the comment section by answering this two part question:

What was the first novel you ever read, and have you read that novel more than once since the first time?

That’s it. I enjoy reading these comments more than you know. And Anonymous comments are welcome and I will be checking my comments all weekend regularly and posting them as they come in.

I’ll pick a winner at random, announce the winner here on the blog, and notify them next week.

After you comment on this blog in the comment section, please e-mail me your contact information. If you don’t mind leaving your e-mail in the comment section, feel free to do that. I don’t spam anyone so you don’t have to worry about that from me. But I know people don’t like giving out their e-mail in public, so please just e-mail me your contact information, with “Christmas Print Book Giveaway” in the subject line, so I know where to send the book. Your privacy will be respected…even if you are anonymous.

Here’s my e-mail address: rfieldj@aol.com

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

The contest begins the minute this post goes live on Friday December 18th, and it ends on Sunday at 6 pm eastern time on December 20, 2016.

Bollywood Casting Couch Experience

Ranveer Singh is a well known Bollywood film actor and he’s speaking candidly about the sexual harassment he’s experienced, and the overall process young actors go through to become stars.

Singh said he met one man, who he doesn’t name, who offered him a chance at success in exchange for sexual favors. “When I said ‘no’ (to his demands), he acted like a jilted lover,” Singh reveals. “Later, I got to know that he does it to everyone.”

You can read more here and there’s a video.

I actually think this kind of thing has been going on all over for a long time with men, only men tend to not talk about these things as openly as women. Maybe because we’re not expected to talk about them? I’m not sure. I also know a lot of women hesitate to talk openly about these things when they happen.

Gay Guy Gets Jail Time For Oral Sex

I guess this guy learned his lesson. Even though it’s a strange story and you have to wonder why these three were hanging out together, the fact remains that no one should have sex with someone unless there’s consent. Period.

The incident happened in May of last year after Everard met the man and his girlfriend at a bar. Everard and the girlfriend hung out together all night. At some point in the evening, the victim left the pair to go back to he and his girlfriend’s shared apartment. Later that night, the girlfriend invited Everard back to the apartment to keep hanging out. Once there, the girlfriend passed out on the sofa. Meanwhile, Everard and the victim fell asleep in the couple’s bed, fully clothed.

Hours later, the victim awoke to find someone giving him oral sex in the dark. Assuming it was his girlfriend, he kept his eyes closed. When he finally opened them, however, he was “in a state of shock and anger” to see it was actually Everard.

“You liked it,” Everard allegedly taunted him before running out of the apartment. He later sent a message to the girlfriend on Facebook telling her: “Your boyfriend needs to calm down.”

This week, Everard was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the incident. He has also been placed on the register of sex offenders.

I wonder if the girl who tried to perform sex with me without consent when I was seventeen years old would have received jail time if I had reported it? Of course I never reported it and never even mentioned it aloud to anyone until right now, here on this blog. At the time I wasn’t openly gay and straight men don’t report sexually aggressive women. She didn’t get very far and I stopped it eventually. But it wasn’t easy to stop her and it was an experience I don’t remember fondly. Up until that point she’d been a friend, and after that night I never spoke a single word to her again. She became nothing to me but a lesson in life.

You can read the rest here.

Most people in the comments “get” it, and sadly some just don’t have a clue.

  1. Ryan, I usually don't get involved in giveaways, because I prefer to buy my friends' books. That being said, let me support your blog by commenting.

The first novel I read (that I remember vividly) was Lolita by Nabokov. That genius was and is among a handful of my all-time favorite writers. I have re-read it several times, and each new reading has revealed another layer of Nabokov's poetic genius.

Thanks for your dedication to your blog, and to your own writing.

  2. The first novel I read – I can't remember the name of. It was a Harlequin and I can remember the cover, however. The story was about a red headed woman with green eyes. On the cover she had brown eyes and he had the green eyes. Always cracked me up. Lol. Anyway, they were both by a lake and she annoyed him. They spat a bit and he thought she was a teenager. Later she was driving a boat quite recklessly on that lake, lost control and hit this same man. She later finds out he lost his sight in the accident and feels guilty. He was a writer and now could not do so. This was the eighties so type writers were still used. Computers were just barely being made back then.

So she applied to be his secretary to transcribe his novel while he narrated. One thing led to another and they fell in love. She never told him “who” she was. Of course a miracle at the end – saw him operated on and his sight was fixed. He “saw” her as the teenager and told her off and told her to leave. She ran off crying and finally – somehow – he realized just WHO she was. Long story short, he found her and they lived happily ever after. I was likely 14 or 15 at that time and I was hooked on romance! Now I am hooked on m/m and my smut. Lol. I did read that book many times and got a friend – hooked on Harlequin and romance after that! She never upgraded to smut or m/m. Feel bad for her, really! 😛

  3. Tom Sawyer. I always suspected Tom and Huck had a thing going on. Hah. As a kid I wanted to have adventures like Tom's on a raft. I've read it many times over the years.

  4. The first book I ever read that gave me a love for reading was “Catcher In The Rye.” And I have read it more than one time since then. I think I see something new each time I read it.

  5. The first book I remember reading was Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. I remember it being very good.I never did re read it. Now if you were to ask me the first MM book I read it was Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton. I loved it. I recommend and re read it often.

As a side note I love your blog. Thanks for the chance.

  6. The first book I can remember reading and really liking was Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice. I did read it again and I've seen the movie a few times.

  7. My first book was a novel I read a long time ago called Cold Sassy Tree. I can't remember the writer's name but they made it a movie. I never read it again, but I would like to do that someday.

  8. Well, phewy! I missed it by 3 hrs. Sorry, taking care of two elders takes more time than expected. Good luck everyone. I read this book a while back and it's fab! The paperback would be a great Ryan Field's book to have.
